Now im more into artists like Dan LuVisi, Puddnhead, Raymond Swanland ,Dylan Cole etc. PS: while you are heavily cosidering purchasing jiunge's artbook you might aswell consider LuVisi's LMS:Killbook of a bounty hunter. He got a movie deal for that one, so it probably is pretty badass My Hardcover Limited Edition of his novel should arrive in about a month <3

I like Wen-M's "Anima" series a lot more. Yeah, I was lurking through his portfolio and you can definetly see a slight morph in his style, which is fun to notice. Thanks for the names guys I enjoyed checking them out although I was already aware of Raymond Swanland for a while and been a fan. Since we're sharing; Áron Jancsó http://www.flickr.com/photos/mil3nOne of my favourite Typography artist--his work is awe-inspiring. & Will Barras http://www.willbarras.com/What this man does with colours is enigmatic.
Also a small little update to the first page. It's in the final stage to be painted and finally have all the small detail added to it but I'm just busy and a little bit lazy. Should have the male version scanned and inked soon too.

Good stuff. I've been following Vitaly Alexius' work for a few years now. You've probably seen his work a few times though. Also a fan of Jujika and Audrey Kawasaki. Jujika: Audrey Kawasaki's not originally a tattoo designer but there's a facebook page of people who got her work inked.

Update and an excuse for my small absence.
I got stuck doing a type setting project for a 100+ page magazine from work and it ate away at most of my week to the point where I never want to look at InDesign again. Paired with the kerfuffle of school the due date ,for this contest, slipped past me and I ended up having to rush it 30 minutes before the deadline (made it in at about 11:49pm on the 15th so it should be good). Since I didn't set aside enough time for myself I was forced to make it greyscale and a little rough. If it makes it to the top 9 thing I'll consider fixing some of the anatomy issues, colour, and a bit of clean up for the detailing.
The updated image is edited in the first post.

OH my god now I finally see it.
Shit.
You see, the heel of the left boot is too far off compared to where her heel is anatomicaly.
If you catch my drift, for real shoes the heel of the shoe should be like an inch to one and a half inch closer. that's how I made the mistake in pointing out your mistake in my drawing. it's just that the arc of the heel should be less wide.

So we made it to the top nine; http://www.joymax.com/silkroad/Silkroad ... ntMain.aspPersonally voted for the "Modern Pharaoh" not so much because I liked the avatar design but for the sheer fact that he or she went through the trouble of adding facial features ad characteristics. Top notch work. However I will crush that other steampunk design! How dare they challenge me; they shall feel me weight beneath the souls of my feet!

I voted for your avatar, the other ones didn't really fit sro/already were in sro/just plain sucked, and your steampunk > the other guy's steampunk.

Voted for Hostage's submission.
Anyone else read Girl Genius? now THAT is steampunk. That's why I like Hostage's better.
matter of fact, not to take anything away from any of the others, the only one I see making it is the pharaoh avatar. That's plenty detailed. Very nice work.
Of course based on the avatars I've seen this year, none of them have enough points n' shit. Besides the Arabian one I swear they're all "sharp". Meh, the wizard one isn't either, I guess.

Although I'm not a big fan completely against costume designs with man abs. I love the design on your character a lot. The other steampunk is more of a Western "Wild Wild West" costume. Looking forward to the male design. Cross fingers on no man abs. I forgot what my ID/PW is though =(

You guys are making me feel obliged to do more work than I'm willing to. I just wanted to half ass my way through this and see what came of it but love you all none-the-less and I'm working on finishing the male version as we speak. Thread should be updated tomorrow. @inky Yes! It's a man ab galore! Embrace and bath in it's glory. Quote: Of course based on the avatars I've seen this year, none of them have enough points n' shit. Best of luck Broskies 4 Lýfe Okay, did a new, quick, rough sketch of the male outfit with the main look down. I'm not to pleased with the head piece and might just go with a classic top hat but I'll let some opinions flood in while I'm doing the lineart. I promised you a male version I'm giving you a male version goddammit, work or no work tomorrow morning!

the male version looks gay, but I will still buy it if you win cuz I like fit avatar. I really hate those bulky over sized avatars. But I really Like the female version though, I might switch gender of my char just to wear it. Hope it really looks good ingame.
Btw, would joymax give you incentive if you win? Like 10% of profit from that avatar sales? or just some shitty rewards?

You don't need to go that far! I can make the male better--I realized as I was sketching it out that the skin tight pleather pants weren't going to be the most manly of looks but I was running low on creativity and decided to fix it up later, digitally. Like I knew I would I ended up hating the headgear and pants so I deleted and tried to start over but ran into a wall...I'll give it another look tomorrow after work but for now a small progress report for good faith.

Will JM even add the winning avatar ingame? Or is this just a contest?

I say tophat with feathers, and the pants more like platelegs from RS.

For silly concept art like this--nothing fancy. I used my old intuos3 and laptop which only has Photoshop installed. If I was aiming towards a more polished piece, if I can find the time to put in the amount of love and detail I would like to that is, I use my Cintiq (hurray for work discounts!) and a combination of Ai and Ps. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the end result of this contest is an in game version of the avatar but I don't think I'll be seeing any profits from it. Which is fine because I did this just for fun and to force myself to finally pick up a pencil and paper and do a few sketches--I've been too busy this year do them out of joy and I can already see what little skill I had start to wither. @Doron I think you're right about the top hat but I don't know about the plat-legs; wouldn't that differ the design from the female version a bit to much? I'll give it a shot.

Well, the plate legs with a load of crap on them of course. Stick some cogs all that other shit in and on it and you'll be done!
