Yeah ok. I have to say I'm pretty damn proud of myself this time. This is easily the best drawing I've ever made and with the most effort.

His name is Henry and he's a Protoss Stalker from SC2.
I've spent approximately 8~9 hours on him in total. 5 of which were streamed live on twitch TV

Looking good. I like the detail.

I am really thinking of trying to colour this one.
I'll have to look a few tutorials for proper painting though. Anyone know a good tutorial? A good brush set for painting? Should I even be using a brush lol?

I saw someone use Corel paint for painting and it looked pretty good. I noticed corel had a much more easy to use color picker. A circle with the colors and a triangle inside for color intensity.

like this:

Any way to get one of these in Photoshop (CS3)?

I'm afraid not. There's an extension for it, you have to pay for that or get a 15 day trial version. http://anastasiy.com/colorwheel
There's a free one as well, but it seems it's for CS4 and above. http://nerdchallenge.com/lenwhite/LenWh ... e.com.html

Maybe I should just download CS5 lol.
does CS6 have anything worthwhile?

Can't really tell as I haven't been using it much for the past year or so. But I kinda like the updated crop tool. There's also this new content aware stuff for the move tool and stuff, but I haven't really used it yet. Oh and dark UI...

Why? It's the best thing ever. But yes, you can change it back.

Dark interfaces are terrible. so painful to look at and it feels cheap imo <__>.
Black themes are the like the Hollywood of interfaces. Cool for a while but then they turn up everywhere and ruin things. Just try reading the sc2 battle.net forum for over 12 minutes. You'll be screaming for a lighter interface soon enough.

I don't know, I like it dark. I have used Blender for long periods of time and its dark UI didn't mess with me. FL Studio is quite dark too and no problems with that either.

Post subject:  Re: Henry the Stalker

I have a test on Monday, gotta learn. It's already a resit so I'd rather score well or the next chance I have is somewhere in the middle of the summer vacation T.T

I've also got a bunch of projects to work on for the next couple of weeks, but I suppose I could at least try a bit. I did start a Shodan drawing in Photoshop to practice with. I also managed to get some information on good settings for Photoshop from a guy on reddit and I've watched a speedpainting vid or two. Hopefully I'll be able to make something good of it when I finally try.

I think I might upgrade to CS5 though, all the free color wheels seems to be CS4 and upward T.T

Additionally I just had some amazing inspiration for a game with a very Dark tone AND it's continuation. I just finished writing the basic concept down in a word doc. Once I've done the stalker, I think I'd like to try drawing some concept art for my stories :P

I also hate dark Ui's in meh art programs. Had to change them in Animate and CC2015. I have dark UI for youtube and srf though.

Great drawing, at first I thought it was an Ing from Metroid Prime 2 (Someone else loves Metroid too?! Oh...). I tried to watch your twitch but nothing is there.

Color it. Just do it.

Yeah, Unfortunately twitch changed their approach to VoD's. If you aren't partnered, only highlights (1 minute vids) can be kept permanently, the full VoD's dissapear after a few days.

And sorry, no metroid :(
I haven't played the games at all before, but they're on my list. Especially the Prime series.

Nah your highlights can be as long as an entire stream vod if you want. Clips are a max of 60s.

Been making great progress lately. Here's a little view of the redesign I ended up doing over the middle leg.
That thing was in serious need of some straightening out...

Are these new ones drawn in hand?

Vectors. I'm drawing vectors over the original, correcting things as I go.
I had originally just set out to clean up the ugly raster pattern. I was going to hand draw over it, but my tablet ended up malfunctioning. The pen sometimes gets stuck and won't release, and the tablet itself is so old that there's no fully functional drivers for it beyond windows XP :soosad:

So I got the idea to try and vector trace it instead...
I'd kick myself for making that decision, but the results speak for themselves.

It's kind of a shame though, to be honest. I'm putting in hundreds of hours of effort at this point, but I can tell the drawing won't ever truly be 'great'. I've improved somewhat compared to the time when I originally drew this, so I can tell that as a drawing it's quite stiff and a bit lifeless.
It probably won't ever amount much more than a sort of character design showcase. I'm even a little bit scared that the vector trace will make it look kind of sterile and detract as a whole...

Still, I'm proud of myself. I'm putting in tons of work and pushing it beyond anything I've previously made. And I'll know a ton of new things for next time. I'm even managing to create a sort of habit of drawing more frequently in smaller bursts. It's kind of nice.

You SHOULD be proud of yourself! Most people never work long enough to actually become good at something ;)

I should've learned how to 3D model instead of going through all this effort...

Post subject:  Re: Henry the Stalker

oh no, I didn't mean that xD
'this' meant: going through all the efforts I'm going through to get the drawing to look good.
I keep shifting the position of stuff and have to readjust the angles for everything to still look good and it's tedious as ****. I literally just swapped the places of the two outer legs around, because things had somehow gotten so out of hand the angle looked better...

I kind of liked teasing it piece by piece but I guess I can't avoid showing a bit more if I need to illustrate what I meant exactly.
Spoiler!

It would've been nice if I had just made a 3D model where I could changed the angle of stuff easily and it would just keep looking correct from every perspective.

Megumin is just an image I use on the discord to visualize my frustrations :P
