Seriously..
So basically if you get challenged by someone else you have 24 hours to throw a bucket of ice and water all over you... after you dry off you donate some money to a charity im not aware of cuz I'm a selfish jew...
Its kinda stupid but when you see the fail videos you get to laugh a bit, f.e:
Also, all the celebrities are doing it. like literally every celebrity.

Because apparently no one cares. At least I don't. I've seen a couple of vids, but honestly it's like the Harlem Shake. Once you've seen one, you've seen them all.

Got to love all the pussies dropping it. I am waiting for the nail clipping challenge though, as hard or harder than this.

Great viral marketing campaign they started. The 'challenge' is to donate or dump a bucket of ice water on you. Which then later became "do both" more or less from famous people. Charlie Sheen on the other hand mocked everyone and Conan made a joke about people doing both. I'm not entirely sure how cold water relates to ALS though. Numb your body? Not really the same.

So everyone picking the ice bucket are basically saying fck your charity I rather have ice water dumped on me than give a few bucks.
It's just the current trend, it'll fly over soon enough thats why we didn't have a thread.

Sorta, yeah. I sincerely doubt most of these vine videos are donating along with dumping water and think it's a fad to do it without realizing what the ALS ice bucket challenge is supposed to be.

Does it matter why they do it? The fact is still that they now have money for research that they otherwise wouldn't have had.
Current stats btw: "As of Wednesday, August 20, The ALS Association has received $31.5 million in donations compared to $1.9 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 20). These donations have come from existing donors and 637,527 new donors to The Association."

I had this theory that anyone dying of any disease should die funding said disease, just a random thought.

Considering the cost of treatment for many deadly diseases I don't think that is even close to possible.
I probably didn't expand properly on it but more like any extra money that you have should go to funding said disease. Reason behind my thinking is because if you are dying is because people have not done enough to find treatments for it.
In any case is not the most serious thought I had, just one of those brain farts moments.

I think its pretty cool, like XMoshe said if you think about it everyone doing the bucket challenge itself are just avoiding the actual donation. But still raising awareness I guess, which is nice.

Well to be fair, I remember seeing videos of this surface weeks ago between family and friends.
They all poured the ice because it's a funny little gimmick and they didn't really have $100 of disposable income to donate to anything.
You can say though that even though they didn't donate, look at what it's turned into. Something upwards of $31 million has been raised.
I like to think of it as celebrities are using their largely disposable income to cover us regular people who may or may not have the means to donate.

I wouldnt compare it to harlem shake, since that one had no other purpose than being something stupid to do, that suppose to be funny. This one might actually help those affected by this disease. Watch some ALS progression vids on youtube, where people gradually lose ability to walk, speak and eventually do anything by themselves. Only medicine they have right now is some pill that maybe gives them 3 more months to live. Thats 3 more months of staring at whatever is in front of you, because you can't even move.
It's rather brilliant way of raising awareness and money for something that not many people knew/cared about.

Not against helping research and charities, but I find it kind of dumb it takes videos for entertainment for anyone to care and donate. And even then it's not as if they are donating because they care, as mentioned its the trend.
Also I saw something earlier, dunno if true, but it mentioned how annually 5,600 people die from ALS, meanwhile like 3mill+ die annually from lack of clean water. Just thought that was kind of funny.

I think it's more the fact that anyone can pick up a bucket of water and ice and soak themselves, so it's easier for people to partake in. Not everyone has $100 to donate to charity for whatever reason, so at least they're participating in something harmless and spreading awareness at the same time.
Also yeah, California's in a huge drought right now. I can't even water my lawn certain days and these guys are trying to make me pour water on myself?

Looks a lot like people jerking off their own ego to me. It doesn't raise awareness, people just dump water on their head and tell themselves they helped the world today. It doesn't force them to research what ALS is so in my eyes this is completely useless.

kinda got pretty mad when i heard about the case of that genuinely autistic 15 year old getting tricked into doing it, and instead of water and ice they spilled piss, shit and cigarette butts. makes me want to go on a rampage.

That it is sickening. I hope... the kids get what they deserve.
