It's only briefly mentioned in the BBC Programmes section:
Quote:
A new drama based on Grand Theft Auto, one of the most extraordinary creative and controversial success stories of our time, and a BBC Three talent show, Girls Can Code

I'm very curious to see what BBC could make of this and I'm very happy to see they're able to look past the generalized view on GTA.

It's a franchise with generally great writing and a lot of material inspired by TV, so I'd say there's more than enough material to create a good show. I hope it doesn't bomb.

I've only just played GTA 2 and GTA San Andreas, but I don't know if a TV series will be any good.
Even if they make a great one, I suspect a lot of GTA fans will be let down by what happens in the series. Obviously it cannot follow the story of the games exactly.

I agree with you for older GTA's. I have fun in GTA V but I can't say it has great writing. Anyway I'm also curious which direction they're taking this in.

Some people are theorizing that the drama might be more about 'the making of' GTA.
I guess that might might be more sensible in the context, but it does leave me a little bit disappointed if it's true :(

A GTA4 drama could be absolutely amazing. I'm kind of imagining it with the structure of Durarara!!.
Every episode focusing on different parties, showing off the stuff that each side is up to in parallel. Eventually all the storylines clash during the museum deal. It could be amazing.

If the show is based on rampant random violence it will actually suck as that type of thing tend to be only digestible in video games...

If you've payed attention during the games you'd know the violence is rarely random.
It's usually caused by factors like: situation, 3rd party pressure, character background, emotions.

From what I've observed you're allowed to go on a violent spree just for the heck of it (at least on the NCPs)....at anytime...trigger or no trigger...

That's just freeroaming. It's entirely up to the player to do that and none of it is canon.
The story missions generally try to keep innocent lives out of the equation. Most of the main characters don't particularly enjoy the violence. They're just stuck with it due to circumstances.

I can only speak for Vice City, San Andreas and GTA4 + TLaD and TBoG though.
mhhh.. I guess Tommy Vercetti was pretty violent though.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... -as-787290

sigh...
So it's gonna be more related to the making of after all :(
Quote:
Grand Theft Auto, a true-life account of a fight between the creator of Grand Theft Auto and a Miami lawyer who wanted to ban video game violence.

And Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) wants to play as Dan Houser, the producer (and now writer) of GTA :P

Could still be interesting, though I'm sad to see it's not based around the story of the actual games :(

Maybe that's a good thing?
