http://www.avast.com <----- realy nice antivirus :P

http://www.gomplayer.com/main.html <---- this is an alternativ to VLC player, only looks better, and is a bit less buggy. The downside compared to VLC, is that it dont play every singel format :P But plays allmost all ;)
so it's definitive worth downloading! :P

For the overclockers out there, I know there must be some...

CPU-Z
It gives detailed info on you processor (such as multiplier, FSB speeds, voltage, and alot others) so you know exactly what you have done since your last bios tweek.
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Also, you are gonna need to know the temps of your hardware:

Core-Temp
Let's monitor the temps of your AMD or Intel processors without rebooting and checking BIOS (if you dont have an internal hardware LCD screen on the fron of your rig).
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1494

Lastly, for those who tweek thier GPU (video cards) there is:

GPU-Z
Gives you detailed info on you video card so you know exactly what it is runing at and it autoupdates info everytime it loads up after a tweek session.
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/GPUZ/1191593246/1

Hope these few small appz help you out if you are new to overclocking, or didnt know about them.

1.Spybot-SD (free program)

2. Is a free and very good type of anti-virus, I really can't explain how it works but it does a good job, it caught more then more Norton 360 did, one of the features i like is that it knows everything that happens onyour computer, this may not sound safe but hear me out, it has its eyes on everything so if you got a sneaky little virus or a hacker trying to access your computer it will notify you telling you that a program is trying to change a registry, you then have the opinion to deny or allow the change

It would be great if someone would update the first post with all the applications posted like what is done with the "mmorpg's" thread. Or should I make a new thread with all the applications already posted in the first post?

If anyone is willing to compile a list, put it together then PM it to me, and if it looks OK I'll edit the thread starters post with it.

I personally don't see a need for it, as:
#1 Its too much work
#2 The information can still be accessed just as easily as its spread out as it is.

Toolbar that (Im not sure about this) is compatible with most browsers ( I use firefox). It gives you a toolbar that allows you to view news/weather/sports etc channels from over 20 countries, as well as a radio with the same functions.

For firefox users
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... l&status=4

Called the qtl, is a quick language translation for over 30 countries. Simply highlight the word you want the definition for, and it will come up in a separate window with a translation in your desired language.

For those of you who hate to work with iptables...

gShield

Quote:
gShield is an iptables firewall for use with the modern series of the Linux kernel. It is easily configurable, and supports a wide range of features.

I like it because it has pretty good documentation (same reason why I like BSD...the manner of professionalism in which the documentation is written). Also open source is ftw

Info: VMware if a program that lets you make a virtual windows on your PC, running within your PC. This virtual windows cannot be harmed by viruses or worms. Instead if it does, you can simply reset it. This is a good program for testing files before using them on your real computer not risking viruses or bugs.(Think of a windows in a window on your monitor =p) Also useful for running 2 SRO clients at once for plvling another char if you don't have another computer and you don't use the illegal multi-client. (Beware of requirement. You will need a boot CD to boot the copy of Windows up on the virtualization program!)

Name: Colobot
Website: http://colobot.com/
Use: Good for people who want to start learning programming, especially C++ or Java.
Description:
COLOBOT combines both a real time game of strategy and an initiation to programming. You are at the head of a space expedition and you are assisted only by some robots. Your mission consists in successive attempts at the exploration and colonization of various planets.
You will have to search for the raw materials and energy you need in order to survive. As you go forward, you will be able to build and program new types of robots which will prove of an invaluable help for the completion of your task. You may also want to know that most of the planets you'll be visiting are crowded with primitive and insect-like lifeforms and that you may be forced into fighting them if you want to stay alive.

Cain and Abel

Code:
Cain & Abel is a password recovery tool for Microsoft Operating Systems. It allows easy recovery of various kind of passwords by sniffing the network, cracking encrypted passwords using Dictionary, Brute-Force and Cryptanalysis attacks, recording VoIP conversations, decoding scrambled passwords, recovering wireless network keys, revealing password boxes, uncovering cached passwords and analyzing routing protocols. The program does not exploit any software vulnerabilities or bugs that could not be fixed with little effort. It covers some security aspects/weakness present in protocol's standards, authentication methods and caching mechanisms; its main purpose is the simplified recovery of passwords and credentials from various sources, however it also ships some "non standard" utilities for Microsoft Windows users.

Cain & Abel has been developed in the hope that it will be useful for network administrators, teachers, security consultants/professionals, forensic staff, security software vendors, professional penetration tester and everyone else that plans to use it for ethical reasons. The author will not help or support any illegal activity done with this program. Be warned that there is the possibility that you will cause damages and/or loss of data using this software and that in no events shall the author be liable for such damages or loss of data. Please carefully read the License Agreement included in the program before using it.

The latest version is faster and contains a lot of new features like APR (Arp Poison Routing) which enables sniffing on switched LANs and Man-in-the-Middle attacks. The sniffer in this version can also analyze encrypted protocols such as SSH-1 and HTTPS, and contains filters to capture credentials from a wide range of authentication mechanisms. The new version also ships routing protocols authentication monitors and routes extractors, dictionary and brute-force crackers for all common hashing algorithms and for several specific authentications, password/hash calculators, cryptanalysis attacks, password decoders and  some not so common utilities related to network and system security.

http://www.oxid.it/cain.html

Don't do anything stupid with this program, it is used for security and password recovery.
Don't download it if you dont understand this stuff either.
