Anyone out there still use SRO in Linux? I haven't tried this game in Windows in at least a few years, so I don't know if it's just a Linux thing or not, but whenever I log in, the game randomly closes. It might be 10 seconds after the town loads, or a few minutes or an hour. There are no errors or anything. The client just disappears. It doesn't even show up in the process list.

Anyone else see this happening?

Yeah I was mildly excited because I actually logged in the first try with no wait. Then once Jangan loaded, I started typing something about logging in on all chat and BOOM client disappears! :banghead:

A few months ago, I logged in my blader, Hotan loaded, I ran out to Karakoram thinking I could do a little grinding since I haven't in a few years. I run onto the ice and BOOM client disappears :banghead:

Not that I am even remotely active, but it'd be nice to be able to log in every year or so and play around a little.

I haven't been in Linux for awhile, but even before the recent inspection, the client crashes occasionally.

Yeah when I used to play it would crash occasionally, but it wasn't too often. Now it's crashing after a few seconds or minutes. Maybe it was just the luck of the draw so to speak since I only log on about 3 times a year or so.

Well, based on other's reporting of success getting rid of HackShield, I removed the directory too - threw it in the recycle bin. Right after I did that, the game would crash every 10-15 minutes or so. Not clockwork, but much more often than with HackShield running.

Well I updated my nvidia graphics drivers to the latest version and tried it again. Crashed... Then I reconfigured wine to use a virtual desktop and now SRO doesn't crash. So perhaps it was a combination of the two.

As for hackshield and running SRO on Windows, I haven't messed with hackshield since it isn't giving me any problems and I don't want to mess with the client. Keep it clean...

I have never had Windows installed or running on this computer. I refuse to install it. Friends don't let friends use Microsoft software. :-P

honestly what is so bad about windows? not everyone knows how to run linux or just don't want to bother messing around to do something. linux is nice ill give you that but iv always had a problem with something and i didn't like spending a lot of time messing around and looking around to find a solution.

My spec are
CPU Dual core 2x 2.5 amd 64
3 GB ram
GPU 8600 GT 256 MB
OS Ubuntu 9.10 64

WINE 1.1.39

SilkRoad Online Crash Without reason taken from bugzilla

"Anti-cheat system which seems to protect the game from any memory change and it forces a crash if any anomaly would be detected. It most likely sees wine as a debugger..

wine has an excellent fps as it does not virutalise the hole system but crashes after 5-15 mins.
can ran max settings on 1400x900 win 98 mode

trying native wininet.dll with win xp mode wine crashes same results

VMWARE PLAYER 3

The game runs normal in vmware player win xp sp2 32 altho there is a performance issue with i believe pixel shader.

Fps drops on: in-game rain, berserker mode ( when the char is red ) and if you have gear equipped with a "glow" so-to say making a soloing hard and running try town 1fps and lower.

vmware player virtualises whole system and thous is slower, memory transfer is horrible most likley it uses hd space than ram
and pixel shader rendering makes the game a slide-show.i run this on 1024x768 all settings on min.

so is there a way to turn off pixel shader in silkroad, any help would be very nice.
