It's highly laughable after I read it seeing we have this section of the forum... What ever happened to this apparently stern position on the matter of private servers...Did anyone got punished for playing on private servers when this statement was first released?....

The post actually says nothing against private servers themselves, only about private servers run by companies who distribute bots/sell gold on official silkroad servers.

This sums up the main point pretty good:
Quote:
SRF cannot and will not support any server run by a company which sells bots and gold. We will not EVER condone a private server which allows you to buy silk which lines the pockets of those who have destroyed the official servers. ...Should you?
(sometimes helps if you actually read what you are talking about, dear BuDo)

Actually, many private servers sell silk, probably all of them so he's got it right ;) But times change and people don't come to SRF for information on iSRO anymore. We all know very well iSRO died a long time ago and without OSV the forum would be even more deserted.

I can't remember seeing this post, neither do I remember seeing it enforced at any point in time. But if it was I'm sure they started to condone the private servers when iSRO started to decay to a point of no return.

And it was said earlier in the post as well. If you read it all you could have noticed it was mainly directed towards a certain server run by bot/gold selling company, maybe it was meant this way, maybe not. But that is what the post said.

But hey, I did not want to start an argument, just gave some friendly advice!

I don't know of any private server that didn't ask for cash in one way or another... Even the ones that didn't sell silk asked for "donations"... The sumed up point you qouted shows she's bothered by the legality of it all which is also evident in the line: "They have the potential to make a profit from Joymax's work.". Which they all tend to do and she wants this forum to have no affiliation with... You need to read between the lines...

The servers themselves are illegal and that alone infringes on her moral perceptions of what SRF is all about. She obviously doesn't know how to handle the situation and stopped short of stating any form of punishment... Probably because she didn't want to lose members from here maybe... She has a problem with private servers period... She just didn't spell it out in plain basic terms for you to understand...

While reading between the lines is useful sometimes, like driving a car, you should stay on the road sometimes. They ask for donations and the legality is a problem, yes,but the way that post is written legality is just half the problem and the main issue is with them encouraging botting and the server owners being the ones distributing the tools for it.

Very rarely do you get to see a gif used perfectly for the situation. This is one of those times.

These private/illegal servers provide a platform for (and enables) all sorts of SRF rule breaking activities...That's the real issue... She tipped toed around it and talked about botting and you bought into what she said without thinking about what's really being expressed... There is no point in focusing on the botting that happens on these servers when their existence alone opens the floodgates for all types of rule breaking....Not having them or us not playing on them is her real and somewhat un-telling message...

Heh I remember the old EB witch hunts, when even arguing against banning bots would get you banned ("bot support"). It was all great fun until half the mods got exposed as botters themselves. Ahh SRO drama circa 2008 :D.
