Post subject:  [GUIDE] How to PK2 Edit your underbar

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9130/u ... morcc7.jpg

This is a guide for editing the underbar
(which is the bar at the bottom with the skills exp and sp ect.)

images are in spoilers so it makes it a little more easier to read

Image

First step, Backup your Media.pk2 file, this is what you will be editing
It will be found in your Silkroad folder. Save it in a folder and don’t touch this one as it will be a clean one you can copy if you have gone wrong somewhere in the line. Also don’t forget to quit the game as editing whilst your in game will corrupt the file.

Ok, now open up PK2Extractor.exe (this is in PK2 tools)
File > Open > [Your Silkroad folder] > Media.pk2

Spoiler!

Ok now you need to go to interface > underbar

Spoiler!

You will need to extract
ub_window_01.ddj
ub_window_02.ddj
ub_deco_left.ddj
ub_deco_right.ddj

We will deal with these for now but you may want to extract more, later. Use the same way as this.
They will be found in the PK2 Tools folder (where you extract the pk2 tools)
PK2 Tools > Media > interface > underbar

Spoiler!

We need to turn the DDJ files into DDS files which is done by using Jan’s converter

Spoiler!

Now browse the folder (PK2 Tools > Media > interface > underbar)
And click convert to DDS

Spoiler!

Ok now I will explain some things
Spoiler!

As you can see there is only a certain amount u can edit, you can’t edit “outside the box”
This is where you get creative and make your own underbars (or copy from other people’s lol)

Open up ub_window_01.dds

Spoiler!

I have labeled a bit which is also part of another edit
Use this and the helper tool in the quoted post to design an underbar.
You could also save one of the examples and copy and paste them over DON’T FORGET THESE MAY NEED TO BE CHANGED SOME MAY HAVE SP OR XP ALREADY YOU NEED TO EDIT THESE OUT.
When you save them, save them as a DDS please check out viewtopic.php?f=5&t=87733

If you would like to just edit one first to see if it works that isn’t a problem.
If you want to edit all of them then you must check what you are editing, refer to the originals and use common sense.

This is what all the DDJ's represent. the black can represent the ALPHA layer
usually images are made up of the primary colours red green and blue (RGB)
alpha layer is transparency (ARGB)
Spoiler!

Once editing is finished we need to change them back to ddj.

Spoiler!

you do not have to change everything, just what you would like changed.

Look for the folder again (PK2 Tools > Media > interface > underbar)
And click convert to DDJ

Now we are ready to put the files into the media.pk2

Open up PK2 Editor.exe (in PK2Tools)
File > Open > [Your Silkroad folder] > Media.pk2

Spoiler!

Find the DDJ files (or file) and press open.
Finally press import
Close the editor down (you must close it down or it will corrupt)
run silkroad!

First time you may experience some problems (like images not matching up right) if you follow by what the original ones are, you shouldn’t see a problem. If you have a problem please show me it with screenshots and what stage you are stuck at.

Unless someone has tried and tested this I will not be posting templates out yet.
If someone would like to offer templates (as dds or ddj files) please send me a pm and I will add it to the tutorial

Credit also goes to Jan my first guide :D

Post subject:  Re: [GUIDE] How to PK2 Edit your underbar

you do not have to edit all of them, just the ones you want.
for example... ive left the exp bar green and sp yellow and the numbers as they are because it looks ok like that.
you dont have to change it all to get it to work.

thanks very much for the descriptions. please may i add them to my guide as another spoiler?

certainly

you do want to edit them all so it fits in with your theme, instead of just having it like a skin

i would suggest editing the number as their color was with the silkroad theme and u need to edit the left and right deco.

The only hard thing to edit would be the buttons as those are likce pics but u coulds always go the simple route and just do the shortcut letter in the theme you have

during this next inspection i think ill try and make my own complete one

yes mine was quite lazy, when you rollover the buttons... they are the origional ones and i guess the numbers are just... what i felt like having at the time. personal preference :D

when making a origional design. make one as a whole in photoshop using the templetes and save it as a jpg.
then open the jpg and just copy over dragging and deleting what you dont want, it is what i did to test it out and it will be clean if you have a good sense of judgement.

i will update the guide now. thanks :D

ok figured something out

The black isn't the transparency in the texture. The transpareny comes from an alpha layer in channels.

My first problem concerns this

When i try and save it as .dds i get the error of too many channels, so im confused on how im going to edit them

also saving with the .dds photoshop plugin always freezes, do u know what settings to save as?

if you read the guide it says the black is alpha.

alpha is transparency in-game
it also says ARGB

Post subject:  Re: [GUIDE] How to PK2 Edit your underbar

once you have extracted it you need to change it from ub_window_01.ddj to
ub_window_01.dds which is done using the converter i have put up for download.

once it is in .dds format you can open it with photoshop cs2 or cs3 (those are the ones im sure of) providing you download the add-on.

which part are you stuck with?

1. Open picture and copy visible contents
2. Make new picture with white background with same size as original
3. Paste copied contens into new picture
4. Unlock and delete white background layer(double click will unlock background layer)
5. Now the area around contens is invisble(alpha), you can make contents layer transparent as well too just with setting up contens layer.
6. Save it as DDS A1 R5G5B5 (or A8R8G8B8 for partial transparency if you created one).

Ger do u have photoshop cs2 or 3 and pixie what are u talking about?

alpha isnt black it is just black to show you the transparency.

if the alpha layer was transparent you wouldnt know what to edit! so its black so you can see it

i have the whole Creative Suite 3

ok the alpha layer is in channels pallete

The alpha layer is way defines the transparency, they just put make it black on layers so u can see, but if u go into channels and select the alpha layer all the black that surrouns a button is selected. The reason that just black alone is transparency wouldn't work because there is some black within buttons that show up
