When I look around with the mouse, I get some enormous stutter and choppyness, more noticeable when in first person and moving the mouse diagonally - it's like the camera is falling down stairs or something, it doesn't move in a straight line, or it's like skipping frames. It's not that I have performance issues or something, the fps is fine, about 25-30, settings are on the low side.

I have tried disabling mouse acceleration and vsync in the ini files, I have tried two fps limiters, the d3d9.dll one and Dxtory, but nothing has worked. I only got this problem after formatting.

Suggestions?

Well, now I've figured out that this problem happens when I play an updated version of Skyrim. There is no problem with the first version, but hell, I'm not playing the old full of bugs version. On the other PC there is no problem with the updated version and when I use the touchpad the problem is still there, so it can't be the mouse.
Now for some reason an fps limiter won't solve the problem any more(it worked when i first tried it, the next day it didn't). Then I tried recording the problem with Fraps, Fraps does not work as just an fps limiter, but the fps was set to cap at 30 when recording, and the problem was gone when recording. But I don't want to record all my gameplay, because it makes the fps shittier and fills up my hard drive very fast.

So I'm pretty much out of ideas now.

Have you tried turning on Vsync as a fps limiter?
You could also try running the game on a different directX version: open properties of the game and put "-dx9" at the end of the target (without the "). so it becomes "C:/Games/Skyrim" -dx9

Otherwise maybe you can pull of some sort of trick with compatibily mode :/.

Vsync is on by default and it caps the fps at 60, that didn't work.
Skyrim only uses dx9(*palm*), but I tried -dx10 and -dx11 anyway, which didn't work.
I tried compatibility mode for XP SP3(which the other pc has, where Skyrim works) but it didn't work.

If I can't get it to work then I might play Skyrim with the stuttering. Because I really want to play Dawnguard and it is still playable with the stuttering.

I just read something about the stutter issue disappearing if AA (anti-alias?) is turned off. So I guess you should try that? Check your video card's software as well, maybe you've set it to do the anti-alias for you automatically. you could try juggling between the game's AA and your driver's AA...

When I google skyrim mouse stutter, there's a lot of forum threads involving mouse fixes through .ini file modifications, you should look into that as well if you haven't already : D

Don't disable vsync. Mouse acceleration is fine to disable, but disabling vsync will result in the game clock messing up and breaking a lot of quests.

Yea, I read that it could fck shit up so I left it on. Some cool physics can also happen when your fps goes way higher than 60.


ATI Catalyst doesn't let me force AA off. I can only select 'Use application settings' (i have AA disabled in Skyrim), but the least I can set it to is 2X. Atm I have an old driver, AMD Catalyst doesn't let you disable AA either IIRC, but I should install some new drivers, even having old drivers may be the case. But when I dl a new driver, it makes the PC detect the video card as ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 instead of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5145. Happens with both 4xxx and 5xxx series drivers and autodetect. Though it's not a real problem, it's just an annoying thing.
