Yes, my comments showed a severe dislike of black people. Nice catch.
You sir, are a bloody idiot. Whether your black or not.
Lean back in my first-class seat, and sleep. Don't wake me till I land, when they barely understand What I speak, but they nod to my beats. I tell my fans who I am and they stand and they clap They applaud. They love me, my God.
Most of what Lupe says go over must of these peoples' heads anyway.
Quote above has 2 different meanings. First one is self explanatory and the other is him comparing himself to a religion. How people barely understand what their god wants but they understand the basic principles behind the religion so they follow. The clapping and standing is what some do to praise their god. Not very complicated but effective.
If my engines ever stall and I plummet from the sky But she will keep me high And if I ever die She would commission my image on her bosom To hum Or maybe she'd retire as well A match made in Heaven set the fires in Hell
2 Meanings.
Even Scuba Steve would find it hard to breathe Around these leagues My snorkle is a tuba, Lu the ruler around these seas Westside Poseidon, Westside beside'em, chest high and rising Almost touching the knees of stewardess and the pilot Lucky they make you flowered Personal floating devices, tricks falling out of my sleeves
3 different meanings there, maybe 4.
Anyone who "hates" rap, I'm just going to assume you based your judgement off the cancer of rap, rappers like Soulja Boy. I listen to all types of music and I have yet to find a verse in a song that is on average more complicated than a rap verse. Feel free to prove otherwise.
+1
Lupe's songs usually have more than one meaning like this song..

That is by far the only true thing in this thread.

Even the Pixies don't know what their songs mean, seriously, try decoding their songs. Also, goodluck finding the actual meaning to possum kingdom. rapist? vampire? Serial killer with some odd fetishes?

Most people here actually love ROCK/HARDSTYLE/HARDCORE/METALLIC and all that shit.
Yeah I know, couldn't believe it myself first, but it's the truth

Your posts could be experienced as racist. I know if didn't know you for a longer time, I would've thought you were a racist.
And SoleFresh is right, Rap is not anymore what it used to be. We now have those 'gangster' rappers thinking they live in some kind of ghetto. Guess the stupids don't even reliaze that most them are among the richest people in the U.S.
But I guess you like André Hazes en Guus Meeuwis more ehhh?

According to Wikipedia about Possum Kingdom...
"It's not about vampires," Umbarger insists. "Even though we have a big underground vampire following in Florida. They come with their teeth and everything. I'm not lying about that, that's a real story. They'll show up and you'll be talking to someone, and they'll smile and it's like, 'Jesus Christ! You've got fangs!' And they're like, 'Yeah. It's a vampire thing.' So we have this big vampire underground following, and 'Possum Kingdom' has kind of stirred it up."
"It's just a story I heard long ago; it's just a really cool, eerie lake, and some stuff I heard and some stuff I just make up. I tend to do that," Lewis explains about the watering hole where his family used to hang out and barbecue. "They dammed up this big river up there, and it's got all these spooky names like Hell's Gate. It's really cool."
Mystery solved. Obviously something someone would have never figured out unless they knew a good deal of background about the person(s).
The complexity I like comes from intricate use of literary devices. Not from people who are unable to articulate themselves properly or rely heavily on events that only they've witnessed...
Half of one Lupe's verses in "Dumb It Down" analyzed. Not done by me because I don't feel like typing that much...
Spoiler!
Even Scuba Steve would find it hard to breathe Around these leagues My snorkle is a tuba, Lu the ruler around these seas Westside Poseidon, Westside beside'em, chest high and rising Almost touching the knees of stewardess and the pilot Lucky they make you flowered Personal floating devices, tricks falling out of my sleeves David Blaine Make it rain You Make a boat I make a plane Then, I pull the plug and I make it drain Until I feel like flowing and filling it up again.
Even Scuba Steve would find it hard to breathe (Scuba Steve is a scuba diver action figure in the movie Big Daddy)
Around these leagues (Leagues is a measurement of depth of water; his lyrics are so deep that it’s hard to breath: Also Lupe is in a whole ‘nother league)
My snorkle is a tuba, Lu the ruler around these seas (His snorkel (the tube that a swimmer uses to breathe under water) is like a tuba (A trumpet with a low, deep pitch) because since he is the ruler of the seas, he sermons his listeners with a trumpet sound ever time he exhales (spits). He needs his voice to be loud and deep like the sound from a tuba. Lupe is the ruler of Hip-Hop and he is using seas as a continuation of the water metaphors throughout the verse.)
Westside Poseidon, Westside beside'em, chest high and rising (Poseidon is the ruler of the seas in Greek mythology. He is the ruler of the West. He is on the Westside of Poseidon, therefore he is his left hand man. Westside Chicago is beside Lupe and supports him. Lupe is proud, and has his chest out, and is ready to rise up the ranks of raps elite. He is also raising the depth of the waters, and his lyrics.)
Almost touching the knees of stewardess and the pilot (The water is rising so high that it is going to the skies where the planes are)
Lucky they make you fly with Personal floating devices, tricks falling out of my sleeves (Water is now so high that it is in the plane so it is a good thing that the passengers have personal floating devices. There is always something new with Lupe, and all of his lyrics can mean different things to different people. His words are like magic.)
David Blaine (Famous magician)
Make it rain
Make a boat (There’s so much water that you need to make a boat to float with like Noah’s Ark)
I make a plane (He is above everyone else so they are all in a boat, but he is flying above them. Also, he is so good that he raises the plane and sets a new level that rappers have to come up to. Lupe is raising the bar)
Then, I pull the plug and I make it drain (If I leave, then the rap game will be depleted of lyrical depth. Pulling the plug can be seen as dying like a person in a coma gets the plug pulled. He is also making it seem like a bathtub that is filling up with water)
Until I feel like flowing and filling it up again..(His flow is like water and he can do this anytime he wants. He can easily increase depth whenever he raps.)
Another rapper...
Yo...put one up to shackle me, not clean logic procreation I did not invent the wheel I was the crooked spoke adjacent While the triple sixers lassos keep angels roped in the basement I walk the block with a halo and a stick poking your patience ~ Aesop Rock
The instruments in rap tend to be monotonous so the lyrics are the major focus of the song... usually.
@Pham Rap is a cultural thing, not a race thing. I can easily name rappers from many different continents and ethinc backgrounds...

I been listening to lupes song for years, listen to put you on game and hip hop save my life, those are definetly his 2 BEST SONGS EVER.
Dumb it Down is also really good lyrics-wise.
Personally, I like Lupe. I think he is one of the few saving graces of modern hip-hop. However, to those of you who think rap is "retarded", may I ask you what you listen to? Maybe you enjoy hearing Nickelback's deep lyrics? Or perhaps Disturbed's intriguing story-telling? Maybe you just like listening to people scream, or enjoy hearing the sound of wood attached to some horse's hair on a horse's gut-string. Whatever genre of music you find pleasurable, there are many ways to dismiss it such as "nerdy", "emo", "gay", and "retarded" to name a few. So why don't you all try to respect other people and the music they listen to? I mean, it might be a nice alternative to being immature imbeciles and having pointless arguments that can have no possible resolution.

You haven't heard? Rappers are ignorant, only talk like gangstas, can't rhyme words with more than 2 syllables, and don't use real instruments. Rap fails.

I like rap, it's that most of it is shit, i don't give a shit if it's deep. if it sounds good i like it. It's just like people saying EVA is deep, it's not, your just trying to sound cool.

You could've stopped after your first dissapointing comment in this thread. That would have been the wise thing to do. Yet you failed. And failed again, with this line of random words, whom do not make any sense at all. If you think you have a point (try some other thread though) learn to express it in a more articulate way.
I did not act black, i just quoted a line i thought would be very rapper-ish in an interview. Which is true btw. I've seen enough interviews.
Your just a moron, looking for a reason to call someone racist in every word you see, you get off on it. It makes you feel purrty and important. Yet, it's totally dumb and ignorant.
Not everyone in this world is a racist, please get over yourself.
So, i even highlighted the parts i think you missed last time, or are not familiar with. How good am i? really gud, i know.
