I've accidentally discovered how to draw faces!

I've always sucked at drawing humans, but lately I've been wanting to improve that a bit. but somehow I can never really do it right. Body proportions off, stiff-looking, etc. Can't even get the faces right. Usually they end up looking like retards D: Or at least have a lazy eye or something like that.
Well... No more!

While doodling I accidentally discovered how to do it right! And it's really simple too D:
YOU GOTTA START WITH THE FACIAL EXPRESSION!
First you draw the facial features such as eyes, mouth and nose. THEN you add the hair, head and ears around it!

That's it. It's all in the order of drawing D:

Every time before this, I'd tried to make the shape of the head first and add the facial features in later, as most tutorials suggest. But then it becomes very hard to distribute everything properly, and the proportions end up completely wrong Q_Q

Now you just draw the shape of the head as is fitting for the face you've drawn, and it all ends up working out intuitively!

Face:
Spoiler!

It's just a quick scribble, no real effort put into it. But it certainly looks human! Woohoo!

Nice. I've always been bad at face proportions too and I've seen some people start a portrait by drawing the eyes and then stuff around it. Maybe this will help.

That's actually really neat!

Would you care to share more drawings? :)

I'd love to, but I rarely ever sit down a really draw properly :(
I've got a bunch of older threads of some drawings I've made, but here's a quick summary of my proudest creations:

I'll always post if I make something noteworthy :)

Right, as I view these, I realize I've asked you to share them before, haha.

Loved the spacecraft one btw!

Haha. That's the only one that has something of a story behind it.
It's a Medivac from StarCraft 2, a transport and healing unit in one.
When the Heart of the Swarm expansion came out, Blizzard buffed the Medivac a bit and gave it a boost you could manually activate that doubled its speed for a few seconds. It was extremely useful and considered overpowered by many players in the early days.

Another change they added at one point was giving Zerg's anti-air defense building (Spore Crawler) a double damage boost vs biological air units, so that Mutalisk compositions in Zerg vs Zerg could have a little more counterplay.

At one point I made a little comic drawing about that change and posted it to reddit. It became a hit overnight due to how shitty it looked :D
Spoiler!

People said they wanted to see more, so I linked them to my other drawings (the ones I just posted above). A lot of them reacted with surprise, and one dude requested: "Could you draw a medivac with boost on like that? :o that would be awesome". He didn't specify whether he wanted the serious style, or the microsoft paint style, so I did both :D

And that's how the MediShoop came to be...

The best part is, that the spore crawler post reached enough meme status to get animated by Blizzard celebrity CarbotAnimation (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ:・✧

See 0:40

Wow, that's really awesome that your drawing propelled to meme status like that on Reddit :o

Enjoyed reading your short story of how it came to be :sohappy:

Anyone put my grand discovery to good use yet?

Tried "learning" to draw (practicing, following a few guides/tips) about a year ago, but put it down when I got busy with so many other things. Oh well.
