So I just started this "Digital photo editing" course in my school. Why I chose it? Becouse I thought that I would get easy 10 out of it (10 is the best grade in Finland). BUT I have a problem. Our school is using Corel Paint Shop Pro X. I was trying to simply cut a part of picture with pen tool as I'm used to do in PS. I can't even describe what happened after I started to play around with PSPs pen tool. (I don't want to sound diva though this just annoys me)
Okey to be honest the problem is not that bad becouse I can make the works at home with PS. It would be nice if my school had PS installed on the computers though. And it would be nice if I could do everything as well as I'm capable of but I guess I have bear with it.
So why did I make this thread? Just to make AC little bit more active and since AC has been pretty NSR based lately.
But yeah. Any thoughts, advices or anything about the topic?
Discuss.

I can suggest learning the very basics of paint shop pro; you'll prolly still have an advantage, since you know PS.

Yea PSP sucks, make sure you can do the projects with PS. If you have a laptop, it might be worth asking if you can use it in class.
Side note related: I just started college and i have a digital imagery class that I thought would be fun (not related to my major). It turns out, most of my assignments are based on real world stuff so my sig experience is useless.

But my laptop is 17" so it's annoying to carry it around.

Yea, my 16.4in Vaio is a beast of a computer (i consider it a desktop replacement considering the power it has) and its about 6.5 pounds so i only take it to my PS class(although that's the only class i need it for). I would definitely go with a 15inch thin and light i were to do buy a different computer.

How about trying to learn not only photoshop. For those who are studying design Photoshop, Corel, Adobe Iliustrator are most important in studies (friend finished design in university). So just stop crying and try to learn. Good Luck.

That is what School is for, but he wanted to get easy 10, and I can, it is very hard to get 10, I took ATK (Some kind of photo editing course too) and got my Easy 10 =)

The general idea is that Photoshop is a great start for practicing design. Learning composition, typography, depth, lighting, etc. Get familiarized with the tools and everything and you'll less of a harder time understanding other programs.
Corel PSP and Photoshop are practically the same, but Photoshop offers a lot more versatility with the additional feature sets. For home use, it might not seem much of a big deal of using either of the programs, but if you want to get serious, then Photoshop is for you.
Personally, I think that constantly switching between the two is ridiculous.

I do believe that the Paintshop Pro he is using is outdated.

It's not that I'm copletely useless with PSP but I have been using Photoshop for so long now that it's hard to switch like that. For example I was like wtf when I couldn't use Ctrl+T for resizing my image. Also what I've heard of is that professional designers use only Photoshop (ofc they us Illustrator and other programs if they can't make something with PS). As I said with Photoshop I could get the best results which ofc would be really nice. By the way does someone know if this lighter version of Photoshop someone posted in AC is stand alone? So I could run it from memory stick.
