This was something that I was working on as I have to do modifications to add some new additions

So I would love some critique on it

I like the color scheme and it seems easy to read/understand the website

Though i dont really like this font and i think the copyright font should be something more serious i mean like a litle thing nobody really reads at bottom :P

Nice though i wanna see the final result

what kind of font would you suggest?

As for the copyright, I just wanted it understated, and not to distract from it, yet, I felt it needed to be there

(and yes, I did spell it wrong, but its all corrected now)

No offence Cin, but I wasn't looking for a rating, and actually I don't consider myself a beginner at photoshop.

I am sorry that you feel that it is 3 squares stacked on, but I wanted to get away from making the center section with a border.

And I actually don't like monotone layouts. To me, THEY are the beginner ones that show that they lack any kind of creativity.

Okay, did some modifications

Hopefully NOW it won't look like 3 squares topped onto each other

Section divider font is called Honey

No, but I was suggested. It was around then, that I was heading back to Ragnarok. I am Super-Mod on RoEmpire.com, and I was in charge of the Fan-fiction/Fan-Arts and skins, which I still take care of now

If I do it right, I won't have to. My existing code is there, I will just have to change the positioning of everything, which shouldn't take me too long.

And yes, I don't use a program, I hand type it all myself. It was the way I learned Html, and even though I just finished a program on Photoshop and Dreamweaver, I still will be hand coding everything

Haven't learned flash yet, working on it

And its fine, I get the monotone reference. Hence why I tried to do a gradient of sea-green and the ice blue, so that it would blend a bit

next time, please post a screenshot of the site with txt n links in it, even if you
just put em in like "Txt txt txt txt txt blablablablabla" n "<link here>" or
something.. it looks a lot less.. plain than it did without text. that means, it
looks a lot better with text, pics n links in it.

to show you what i mean with sites my friends make, here is one of the
sites my classmate made :). so yea, imo, thats a "cool" website that i like
to look at ^^

http://peterbraakhuis.wyger.nl/

so yea, next time try put in txt, maybe some sample pics n sample links into
your site layout, for its a part of the layout n was missing atm. hard for me/us
to see what the eventual site will look like :)

That I have never been able to figure out. That is going on two years!

People have looked at the code, and could not figure out why it does that.

If anyone knows, PLEASE let me know.

And his site Cin, is very streamlined. If I knew flash, I would do something similar to that for my opening page, that way I could separate the site into Diablo work, Ragnarok work, and SilkRoad work, but I could never figure out how.

I don't like the feeling/look/colors/style.

In general, it just seems really amateur. And with the way it's set up, it looks like you will be using IFrames, which were outdated 7 years ago.

edit: I just looked at the coded version, the way it was done makes it seem even more amateur.

It's because you've set your "site" to a background image. To illustrate what I'm trying to say, just remove the image you use in the back, and you'll notice the whole thing scrolls down like it normally would. Or, try lowering your resolution so you can see what it would look like for someone who has to scroll a lot.

The fix, you need to use tables or divs to lock everything into position, then include your iframe into the cell containing your content with width="100%" height="100".

Or, if you're into using the duct tape to hideously cover up your mistakes, add the NOSCROLLING attribute, but than people who have their resolution set to smaller sizes will not be able to see it.

Okay so this is the code that I am using:

Quote:
<style type="text/css">
body {
font: 13px bradley hand itc;
color: #6495ED;
background-attachment: fixed;
background-position: top ;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-color: #ffffff;
background-image: url(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/T ... yout2a.jpg);
margin: 0px
}

and this was done by a friend of mine for me, as before it was snippits of just about everything. I realize that I did not go to school for this, and I was self-taught everything, but I am TRYING

I dislike much of the websites I see, as I like soft, pleasing colours, not stupid eyepopping filtered nonsence, that can't be seen on a monitor from hell (yes i just described my monitor at work) Hence why instead of the entire thing black toned, which I know is more 'popular' I try to do stuff that can be seen on all monitors

And as said, I don't use a program that does all the thinking for me, I hand code this, and I have done this for the last 6 years.

I never took classes for that either, i've had people who have taken them ask for help with their layouts though; and, I've been using notepad to code in xhtml/css/php for the past 6 years and 4 months.

I prefer external style sheets for websites, much cleaner, more organized and easier for another person to come in and edit if the need arises.

Also, the example you posted isn't monotone.

And, I understand your comment regarding un-originality in web design, BUT the cookie cutter sites you are referring to aren't just thrown up there because somebody thought it would be easy or clean, professional, etc. They are arranged in that fashion because exhaustive studies have been performed regarding usability and focal direction, and certain 'templates' consistently prove to be more successful than most 'experimental' or 'personalized' sites.

Web design (in a professional sense) does not = complete artistic freedom, I suggest photoshop or a canvas for that.

Well, I could just scrap all I got and buy dreamweaver and let it do the job. However I have over 50 html pages (5 books with their coding, and I am NOT looking forward to finishing the coding for LoaD3, 2 was enough) so it would take me a tremendous amount of work.

I got about 1/3 of them done, with my first fanfic finished its coding, as well as my brushes, and my guides page.

You shouldn't have 50 pages. You're coding it the wrong way. And dreamweaver doesn't do the job for you, it lets you not remember all the coding functions and attributes, and be able to click a button for a table, instead of typing <table>. Also, judging by the coding work you showed, you might want to pick it up. You don't have the fundamentals down, you're taking the wrong routes in coding, it's leading to a lot of weird stuff: eg background is the site, and iframes.

Try w3schools, they have a lot of resources. Coding standards change every couple months, due to new browsers, windows versions, etc. You really need to always keep up with the new standards.
