my favorites are:
1. Dragonball/Dragonball Z
2. Neon genisis evangelion
3. inuyasha (which actually has a plot that is fairly straightfoward)
4. gundam wing/endless waltz and gundam ms 08th team
(the comics for gundam are incomprehensible, the anime is much much better if you want to get an idea of the action)
