best way to transport a CPU

so i need to get a CPU to and from my school. its the one with prongs on it (478 socket old i know) any ideas?

i was thinking that i have the hard case for a portable hard drive i could fill it with like tissue paper and go from there.

This is why I hang on to the anti-static bags they ship in.

If you have one, toss it in there, fold up the bag and put it in something it can't get damaged in.

well i got one i just don't want the prongs to get bent

hmmm, you could just have it in your hand at all times....or

i actually still have the little plastics enclosure that came with my CPU....im not sure were you could get spares....

this is what mine looks like

i have to worry about bending those pins (which is why i want to make sure its protected from anything that might happen from school)

I wrapped mine several times with a paper towel and then more paper towels in a small box. This was a long time ago, was a 478 too. Paper towels are probably not the best medium for transport though. Just wrap it with something soft and be careful.

If you do bend pins you can carefully bend them back, I've done it before.

thats the thing though i had a old 478 bent like a whole side and some of them broke because i couldn't bend them back well enough (i used an what you macall it knife too)

but i like your idea

bend the pins back hell you can take some pins out to put processors like that on your graphics card i cant remember what gfx and processor you could do this with i know there was more then one i had a mate who did it

my point is dont worry put in an envolope should be find aslong as your not stupid with it by throwing your bag all over or what ever

if you bend pins take a mechanical pencil and slide it over the pin if its not flat and make it relatively straight. the take a credit card, debit, whatever you got and slide it in between the rows a couple times and it should be straight enough to fit into the board. I did this with mine but ended up breaking an important pin off.
