Remember those photos that compare different sizes of planets, stars, etc? Well here's an awesome interactive one that also goes both ways, from the size of hypothetical strings to the scale of the observable universe! *nerdgasm* :sohappy:

- did they really observe the strings at the size 10e-35 or it's just a supposition it's located at that size?
- what's the technique to get the size of the observable universe?

Now that is very awesome. It's mind boggling when you think about how huge things can be, and that even the biggest of the huge is created from something so infinitesimal.

- No, they can not observe strings. That size was derived from the theory built on mathematical calculations, observations, etc.

- A lot goes into it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observable_universe Basically, what we can see or what we "technically" can see.

The speed of light. I don't know for sure but you can measure the age of the universe and how far we can see it by measuring how long it takes light to reach us. IDK if that makes sense or not.

That's what made all calculations become wrong because light doesn't go straight, it is curved by forces on the space.

I'm pretty sure all the recent calculations take into account the bending of light as it passes by stars. Even dark objects like black hole can be see if the light coming in isn't even. It's not like they take a point measurement from A->B to find the distance from here to the center of the universe. It's more of A1-100000 -> B1-100000. Each point would be in a different position looking at several spots from varying angles. Than see if any discrepancies arise. If any do, you scan the surrounding area to see if any objects exists that could cause the wavelength to differ.

Course you'd have to ask an actual Physics/Astronomy professor to see if that is how they do it, but that would seem like a pretty simply way to ensure better data.

The edge of the universe is calculated based on the theory of the Big Bang. If all things started at the same wavelength of light from the explosion, the expansion of the universe is constant, than over time, the light from the initial explosion (edge of universe now) can still be seen, only it will be shifted greatly. If the universe was a singularity at one point, or came from a single explosion, than the light taken from all points in the sphere around us should be the same. While scanning, they found that it was true. Pretty much a constant light all around us except for a few points coming from large objects.

well, 100% belief? No. There is always doubt in everything in me.
Let's say I choose to blindly believe in something. If you ask me if I'm sure about something, then I'd answer I'm not sure.
Since I'm not 100% sure, it means that I have doubt. Since I have doubt, it's alright to question something whether it has the same theory/basic with other thing or not.

It doesn't quite work like that. We know the universe is bigger than what we can actually observe. The further from our viewpoint you look, the faster objects are moving away, space between things is moving. At a certain distance from us objects are moving away faster than the speed of light, yes that's right..faster than light. We can't see past that point. However, the objects themselves are not moving faster than the speed of light, space is expanding faster than light.. Now, to really make it weird, this happens at any point in the universe. Technically we are the center of the universe, but if we were somewhere else, millions of light years away from Earth, our observable universe would just shift to there. It's strange stuff.

The universe is infinite, but has finite boundaries. :sohappy:

We can "see" back to the big bang...but in all directions. There is no center of the universe. Space is expanding everywhere.
