I need a motherboard that will last me a few years that holds at least 4 Gigs of RAM, the processor isn't so important and my price range is only about $300 Max for all these things.

Any kinda of ASUS motherboard you'd like. Just make sure it's ASUS.

the most important thing to me is that I will be able to keep it for a while so what Socket type do you guys think will last the longest? (on a less than $130 motherboard)

edit: does AM2+/AM2 mean it supports both?

+1, the e8400 is a really good deal and it's a really good price. If you want to go quad, you can get the Q6660 for around the same price. And, like inno said, processor doesn`t affect graphics.

4gb of RAM can only be utilized on XP 64 bit edition and Vista if i'm correct. you have that i guess though right? Also ASUS is a great brand in motherboards. a duo-core should do you fine for now. judging by moores law, at new processor is sure to be on it way that will be double the speed of the best quad-core

EDITED*

Everyone and their mother has a Q6600. Its even on my list for my next upgrade too when i switch back to intel, its a damn good processor and it costs next to nothing now.

ty for suggestions, I have made 2 sets that I need help choosing from and need to know if they are compatable with my 500W power supply and case (are these motherboards huge?)

List 1

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131178

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820148160

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115037

List 2

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131324

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227298

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103773

Which would perform better? Is the socket type AM2/AM2+ going to die soon? Is it worth spending the extra money on the first list (I work at walmart....)

edit: My powersupply is 20pin and my current motherboard is 24pin but it works anyway, are all motherboards like this?

Personally i'd go for a Asus P5K-e with 4GB of OCZ DDR2 Platinum RAM and Intel Core2 Duo E8200.
I haven't had very good experiences with AMD since the dual core (in single core they pwn!) so i kind of sticked with Intel. The price of those 3 is about 300$ but you can go for an inferior motherboard if you want more juice and buy a better processor.
