I thought he was going to lose when I was watching the match. Then I realized Phelps was holding back to make the match seem close.

From the Cam angles, it really did seem like the other guy had it, but hey you have to trust the timing equipment.
N of course, Phelps came from above, and the other guy was underwater, so you have to take light refraction into account.

You gotta feel for the other Athletes, i mean. Phelps is doing great, but he isnt the only one scoring. Yet he gets all this attention, and the others get mentions.

Yep, saw it! Also saw the 1972 Munich Olympics with Spitz. My son was watching and he didn't know who I was talking about. I didn't mention the tragedy of '72 - 2 dead, 9 hostages taken and later killed. It's strange how memory triggers work; seeing his records broken has made me both happy and silently sad.Really enjoyed seeing him again in the interview after, Spitz is such a diplomat. I can imagine how Phelps must have felt as he accepted praise from his hero. Phelps said, "I'm at a loss for words, like I was when I saw the clock."~Grandpa

N of course, Phelps came from above, and the other guy was underwater, so you have to take light refraction into account. there was a camera angle from underneath the water they showed and u can tell that phelps just out touched him, but yeah from the camera at the top it looks like the other guy almost out touches him

His mother's reaction was by far the most amazing/cutest reaction I have ever seen. She's standing there with 2 fingers up as in 2nd place... she sees the scoreboard and just stands there with her jaw dropped for a good 30 seconds and collapses.
Phelps is da man... yo.

Grats to Phelps, He was so lucky that he ended on a good stroke! damn, I think if the Serbian guy ended on a better stroke it might even be a different story, but everything happens for a reason. Congratulations to Phelps, Aussies love him =D.
