Yeah but it's different, ronaldo is just a player, maradona is the coach of the team.

I wanted Paraguai to win damnit.

I agree.

The perfect Spain comes always when they are ahead. When they are ahead, they pass perfectly, defend awesome, and even have the best surprising attacks.

It took 86 minutes for them to get ahead in this match, which is why they weren't at their best.

Sorry but you are both wrong. The guy who scored ISNT offside, but the guy who IS offside jumps and tries to hit the ball with his head. That's enough reason to call it offside (lineman calls offside the guy who jumped and tried to head the ball, not valdez). If he (cardozo) didnt do shit and stayed still and the ball goes to Valdez and he scores, then that would be a legit goal. But Cardozo DID jump and DID participate in the play. Good call by the referee.

Dutch have been underwhelming based on how they played in 2008 euro (they beat brazil but i mean the other matches)

Argentina exceeded expectations but thats only cause everyone expected them to be shit cuz of maradona.
All the african team were unbelievably crap, except ghana, who fcked up in the end anyways.
England, italy and france are all jokes

then theres germany, 3 games in which they scored 4 goals. they have the hardest route to the final too and if they beat spain fifa should just hand over the WC to them lol
+their teams mostly 20 year olds. and ballack is injured too

but they wont beat spain :wink:

I'm stressed...Spain v.s Germany :( I looked at their previous games, Germany pwnt their opponents by like 2-3+ points while Spain barely made it against their past opponents with 1+ :(

I have the feeling that there is something wrong in the Spanish crew, if you have seen their match vs paraguay you will see that they make a big amount of mistakes, fail at ball controlling, fail at passing, fail at finishing goals.
I think Spain will have some serious difficulties playing against Germany.
But what the heck, we already have one European group in the finals!!!

I think you're the one who is dead wrong here. The guy who jumps to try and head the ball is indeed in an offside position but he didn't touch the ball at all..It missed him completely hence there shouldn't have been any flag for an offside.

I can see however why the lines man might rush to raise his flag thinking that the player in the offside position might have touched it. You can be in an offside position and the ball being played to you as long as you don't touch it its fair play. I've seen games where a player is clearly in an offside position and have the ball played towards them and they just wisely ignore it and there was no call.

amelie is right, it is enough to "distract" the other defenders

Amelie IS in fact right, http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affeder ... 0_11_e.pdf page 33/140 says:
Code:
Offside offence

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is touched or played by a team-mate is only committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, he becomes actively involved in play by:

Interfering with play
Interfering with an opponent
Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position

I think that is pretty clear.

And for the haters:

I think its just nerves cause everyone expects them to do very well.

I also hate how del Bosque keeps playing torres upfront and villa on the wing. why play your best striker (and probably the best striker in the world) so torres can play (who is shit with his national team most of the time)? and wheres silva, he played like one match and thats it.

Wrong.
You dont need to touch it, as long as you try to go to the ball, to run to the ball, to slide to the ball, to jump to the ball, is enough reason to be called as offside.

BuDo wrote:

If you dont move/jump or touch the ball, yes. There's been many goals when the person in offside stays still, and someone else who is in a legit position runs fast and gets the ball and scores, etc.

You're proving my point here,

if the guy ignores it, of course he isnt offside based on what you said, which clearly never happened on that play,that's not ignoring the ball at all, he jumped he tried to head it. OFFSIDE GET.

You might want to read what Jantje pasted.

Looks like they are forcing the Torres "big moment". They want him to do that awesome goal and then all the clubs will want him.

Well let's stop caring, it's not like Paraguay is a good addition to a world cup semi finals so it's a good thing Spain went through instead of them.

Paruguay = noobs
Spain = win
Germany = win
Holland = win

I think its going to be Holland vs Germany 2-1.

btw: Spain now realy is going to play football, finaly they have a real match against Germany.. i hope they defeat Germany and play against us in the Final (ofc we win) but i don't think they will defeat Germany.
It is posible, no early goals against Spain and they have a good chance. Spain has one of the best middfielders of this worldcup. So close it behind, quick combination play and Torres far in to the goal area. Deep play... it should be working against Germany.

Well if it ends up to be penalties then every country opposite of Germany is fucked. Germany has never lost a penalty series, I also don't think the Netherlands ever won one. :(

id like holland or spain to win the thing
hollan is due for a win. but if they keep on flopping around im gnna go for germany.
if spain played like their last game. they will not win. they need to pass better. spain has won 0 times-.- its time they get it
Paruguay are the underdogs of the 4 but not to take so lightly. they made it this far for a reason

Incorrect.

They should've called offside. The intention of going for the ball in an offside position is enough to blow the wistle.

It's never been about actually hitting the ball. Especially is this situation.
