So I'm about halfway through the book, just finished chapter 40 out of 80, and some of the things that happened in the last episode, like what happened to Jaime, just happened in the last five chapters and other things have been skipped, like all the boring Catlyn chapters, and somethings are just starting like Jon at The Wall and Ser Piggy at Crasters keep. Nothing interesting has happened yet with Arya and the brotherhood. Bran and Jojen just met. I thought that shit with Sansa was a big deal.
I'm afraid everything is going to be bunched up and hurried, there's only seven episodes left. I guess that's what happens when you read the books, eh?
They will sit the third book into two seasons i think, so they can take it slow.
I would read the books but then watching the show sucks cause everything is so different >.< (usually, tho i have heard this series is very similar to he actual books.)

@Crimson: I knew some people wouldn't be able to resist it so I chose my words carefully even with the spoiler block on it. What occurs during those events is what makes it a goddamn huge spoiler.
you all do know that it got renewed for a 4th season right?
.
It better be, cause I sure ain't reading books.

Yep, a while ago I heard that George R.R. Martin told the producers/writers of the show how the plot lines were supposed to go in case he didn't get to finish writing the books. The show is the number one show on at the moment so it will most likely be on for a very long time.
Since they're doing only half the third book, I wonder if they're going to end it with Joffrey's wedding or the Red Wedding in the North?
Based on the released episode titles for the third season:
Spoiler!
The RW will definitely be on episode 9, which is titled "The Rains of Castamere". Episode 10 will just be another teaser for what's to come on season 4. I'm betting at the end of episode 10, they'll reveal Lady Stoneheart.
I just finished the "red wedding" chapters a few days ago and I believe that this season will end there. It is a perfect cliffhanger ending.
I remember seeing this promo with the song "Rains of Castamere" playing on it before the season starter and since that is the song that is playing when the shit hits the fan, it seems like where the writers/directors are leading the season to end.
