I like this quote. Really nails it on the head. Charity > Coerced Aid. We already have varying degrees of government socialism/aid/interference and it always fails. If one becomes a successful entrepreneur one shouldn't be forced to donate to another. Do Americans really need socialism? We're pretty well off.

EDIT - I would love to have a discussion on Private Health Care Facilities VS Socialized or Public Health Care Facilities.

While I'll definitely agree that pure Socialism does not work (and I'd contend, never will). Elements of Socialism are quite beneficial and many nations would argue likewise.

Denmark and Sweden are two nations I can think of off the top of my head that are Socialist Democracies. According to my Danish roommate, he pays around 50-60% (I think that's what he said) in taxes, but, among other things, healthcare is paid for and tuition for college is paid for, by the government.

Denmark has also had a lot of problems with people abusing social services. The country`s industries are not very productive because of the social welfare system. Countries like Sweden aren`t quite as bad, but they have a strength in people having a great preference for domestic products - despite price and other factors.

I think countries like France and GB represent a better model that would be achievable by the US. They have things like socialized healthcare and it works.

What you're talking about is the top earner of GB and Sweden. We have the same thing in Canada. Of course when you're above the middle class and have no problems paying to jump the list and get your sugery before anyone else. But socialized healthcare is something that is needed by the lower and middle class because for the most part, they can't afford it.

Because of Government created Pharmaceutical Monopolies and Government mandated/backed HMOs. The people losing their homes are people that couldn't afford homes in the first place. POTUS Clinton/Bush Jr. decided that everyone should own a home. It wasn't always like that. Health Care in America was good, affordable, and efficient before Government thought people weren't getting "their fair share." I'll have to whip out the statistics in a moment.
