Why the hell do you care about privacy?

Average American teenage male. Goes to school. Has a family. Lives in a suburb. Give one good reason why the government would waste its resources spying on you.

Its the fcking American government. It has the resources, it has the manpower, it has the technology - but they'll only use it with justifiable reason. Its not some communist dictatorship that will invade your privacy for no reason at all...

dude ganji y do u always react with shit trying to act like your so patriotic for america. Like you uncle sam or some shit.

I think that privacy is a thing of the past. USA is far more private than London in England.

Code: Select all

This is more than likely what the Thread Starter was talking about. London has the world most largest amount of surveillance cameras, seemingly making it "surveillance society".

I watched a documentary on this before I went to London, and while there, you pretty much forget about all the cameras watching you, though.. they are. Whether you're in the Tubes, in Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, you will be on camera. The aim is to try keep crime at an all time low in Britain.

London needs those camera's. Simple as that. You get a choice, someone robs you and beats you near dead, and get's away with it., or you walk through 20 camera's a day.

Simple.

London isn't exactly the nicest city I can say I've ever been to. In fact, it is one of the worst. I was not at all fussed by the cameras, and most people don't let it get to them. They continue their lives like they're not even there. As you said, they ARE needed, and are well worth it in both the short and long term.

300 cameras on you... PSHHHH...
1) 280 of those 300 cameras go SOLELY to a vcr/recording device that's viewed once in a blue moon if an accident/robbery happens. And yea... they are on their own wired networks that do not TOUCH the internet.
2) The 10 that ARE being constantly viewed aren't gonna go to the government/media if they see you scratching your bum.
3) The 10 that are satellites, etc are monitoring somewhere important since they can only view ONE location at a time and I doubt it's YOU.

Some of you people have been watching one too many movies. There are ~300,000+ people in the USA alone, plus you are one out of 6 BILLION in the world. Your next door neighbors are getting more intel on your lifestyle than any government is. :banghead:

I ordered parts for my AK47 last month and they're still back ordered. The site sent me an email saying they have been swamped with orders since the election.

I don't give a shit if they watch me, I've done nothing worth watching. Once someone comes knocking on my door saying I need to give them my weapons, then we'll have some problems.

Dont you love the assualt rifle frenzy going on now. Trying to get a Saiga but lol, not paying that much for it. Thought i would get a AR too but...same issue. Damn it

It has nothing to do with hiding. It's about private property rights and the constitution. It's not just the CIA that has been given broader powers under USA Patriot Act. I see you would give up a little liberty for a little security and gladly lose both. Good on ya mate. "If I can't place my faith in it who can I trust." You can trust yourself, friends, and families but leaving your affairs open to a group of strangers sounds somewhat odd. Please; don't assume I'm intimidated by the Nation-State. Intimidation has nothing to do with my distrust of our civil servants. A true patriot pays close attention to the actions of his government 'less he find himself without a shirt.

Mind telling me exactly how I would lose both freedom and security by sacrificing a little of the former?

I'll say this one last time. Privacy is a matter of who. Not how. Will the CIA intercept my phone calls? I wonder how important I am. Just another face in the 300 million residing in the United States.

You're being irrational and a bit "off". You're being sensational. Who said I can't trust my family and friends? Everyone does. But do my personal acquaintances govern me? Do I pay income tax to my friends? Do they make laws? I think thats one of the dumbest analogies I've ever heard. Explain to me how the trust I place in my friends is the same as the faith I place in my government.

A group of strangers? I live in the Michigan 11th District. I've gone to Washington DC and have personally met my representative. Now, I am pending a request for a recommendation for West Point. What a stranger. Sure, they are strangers. But they are our leaders. We elected them. We know their personalities, their family, and even where they live. They are not machines. Our representatives and senators all have an open-door policy. While I was in Washington, I literally just walked in, talked to their secretaries, signed up for an appointment, and left. They are only strangers because you want them to be, Barotix. Its obvious what you think of the American bureaucracy. You will be eternally suspicious and dissatisfied with our government.

You are a driver. The government is the traffic light. It dictates the traffic of our nation. But you, sir, lack complete faith in the traffic light. It will flash green or red as you approach it. Scared of getting involved in an auto accident?

Do you live in China?

Man you have a seriously bad habit of misinterpreting my statements. CBA to clarify [although some clarification might help you understand my point of view]. My Sig sums up w/e long response I would have posted.

I'll try to make this as short as possible:
Quote:

If you're giving up freedom how exactly are you more secure? To give up freedom for security is a paradox.
Quote:
Who said I can't trust my family and friends?

Err, no-one.
Quote:
But do my personal acquaintances govern me?

I didn't mention your personal acquaintances governing you, but I did mention trusting yourself. Do you understand the concept of self-governance?
Quote:
1]Do I pay income tax to my friends? 2]Do they make laws?

1]Unconstitutional. 2]What do laws have to do with this "discussion?"
Quote:
they are strangers. But they are our leaders.

The bureaucracy also consist of several unelected officials. I look for statesmen, not leaders.
Quote:

Yeah, I think we need senators and congressmen that actually, idk, follow the constitution most of the time, and don't constantly twist the words to fit w/e social agenda they had in mind when they ran. Their job is simple; To uphold and preserve the constitution. They ain't doing it well.
Quote:

Suspicious? Yes, but I have my reasons. Dissatisfied? A fleeting feeling.
Quote:
Do you live in China?

No, I live in America.

I feel like I left some things untyped and it might bite me in the ass when you misinterpret this post and read into it, again.

I misinterpreted nothing. If anyone's doing the misinterpreting here, its you. I can't believe you actually answered my questions. They were all rhetoric. It was pretty amusing reading your replies.

Its even more amusing that you are missing the big picture of my point and fiddling with several questions.

I was trying to explain to you that the trust you place in your friends is not the same as the trust you place in your government.

You don't need to give up freedom to be secure. I haven't, yet. I am both secure and free in this country.

If statesmen aren't leaders, what are they?

No government is perfect. The American system is flawed also. But its proved to be one of the most stable. If you disagree with the current government, get yourself elected into a position of power and do something about it.

Maybe I will. It would be more specific, wouldn't it? And maybe written in a bit plainer vernacular than your sig.
