I didn't think it was that big a deal when I first heard of it, but just now it was covered as main article on the Dutch national news broadcast

I hope this worm crashes my schools computer system, all my teachers don't print out work for that hour until the hour is there so we'd get past free :D would be epic cause my school teachers are retarded when it deals with comps...

Meh, I'm running the Windows scanner thing anyway. Just in case. If something comes up...then all my porns have betrayed me and I will be deeply saddened.

I keep reading that it's mostly targeted at government networks but it might be the new Y2K bug. Still though, wouldn't hurt anyone to take a look at their computer security. It will only affect computers already infected. It's not like April 1 is doomsday for all Windows systems if it is true.

Probably not.

My university also issued an article about this virus.

As long as you don't open anything you should be fine. If you are already infected... then it sucks to be you.

And? Run a virus scan. Run a firewall. Run an anti-virus program. Don't download random stuff.

you should be fine if your windows update is well, up to date, and w/e resident virus protection you have is up to date as well, i believe i heard avg put out a update recently to combat the worm, not 100% tho.

no i know what svchost is.....its windows way to get networking and the conficker worm USES that to infect many computers. and cpinney if a computer is already infected even if it has a firewall and anti virus it has a bigger chance of becoming one of the "zombie" computers. thing is guys even if it did effect me it wouldnt effect me for long with my mad computer skills.

chances are nothing will happen because the people who own the worm want to keep on the dl, so that it can affect more users, because of the high publicity its been getting. so they would probably not doing anything drastic until its out of the medias eyes anyway.

I still think this is an elaborate hoax, but I'm updating ZoneAlarm anyway. If something does happen, I don't want to get caught off-guard.

Nothing happened! Sorta~

The virus did broadcast a signal on several occasions, but no one responded to it so it received no further commands to do anything. o,O

Norton: Are sales are a little low a little low due to the recession, get one of the managers in here!

Manager: hmm.. how about we pretend to create a virus, make a giant hoax and scare people into buying more virus protection

Norton: good idea, lets make it go off on april the 1st just to make it seem like real, like some drunken IT teenagers attempt at being kool.

Nothing happened, nothing will happen. Hell both of my pc's dont have any virus proection, its the second of april here and im just fine. Dont believe everything you here.

they said on the news that the virus hasn't done anything yet anyways, most people believe the virus is gonna wait for the heat to get off it and then strike, unexpectedly! then again most people believe it's a dud >.>

Well, the worm used up a lot of resources and was completely useless, so maybe it was a Norton product...

But anyway..
The worm wasn't planned to spread anywhere. Only previously infected computers would be affected. So chances are that anyone who has unprotected computers that weren't previously infected will not be affected. It isn't some elaborate April fool's prank. This worm is a few years old and has been basically getting smarter and gained new abilities, like disabling anti-malware programs and gaining p2p.

SKYNET!! AHH!!
