Same here, i cant wait for this to come out.

I got Vista and i just hated it...so fraking bad it made me sick. i went right back to
XP 8) 8)

Interesting, I don't think I've EVER had the "I can't wait for it to come out" feeling for any Microsoft OS. I don't hate Windows entirely, but was never overly excited about a new release.

I do have the DVD .iso file stored in my home directory on my Ubuntu system. I'm slightly tempted to install Win7 either in a partition (replacing Gentoo) or in a virtual machine under Ubuntu. I just haven't had the time to do so yet.

I have heard that it's a pretty big improvement over Vista. I've also noticed that Vista seems to work a bit better (although not superb) with SP2 now that it's out.

You can always skin the freakin interface =p

I spent 20 minutes deleting an empty folder from my desktop last night because of some weird bug on my Vista. I hope that kind of shit doesn't happen on this one

Well,

I think they just created Vista to keep up with the "flash" that Mac was bringing. I mean, they know that XP was a great great OS, why else would they install an XP compatibility mode on W7?

I thought the RC also shuts down every 2 hours in June next year.

didnt like the new traybar :S

winxp also works fine for me because i've customized it enough to remove all the bad microsoft junk and use opensource parts (didn't switch to linux mainly because I need windows for school/work compatibility)

anyways get http://lee-soft.com/viglance/ to try out new windows 7 taskbar on windows xp/vista, its a quick program that if you close it reset taskbar back to normal so nothing is messed up, easy to remove too

Since I skipped Vista I will most likely get it...
Also, in relation to the pic posted in the last post, this one doesn't seem to become a piece of shit :)
The long beta phase might also lead to a release that is worthy of being one.
From what I've heard so far Win 7 is just a fancier Windows XP when it comes to terms of speed, stability etc. Which is good.
Also on the long run I see MS dropping Win XP like they did with prior versions when it comes to updates and, more importantly imo, compatibility to new standards, like newer versions of DirectX, and thus newer hardware etc.

Windows 7 is awesome!!!! hardly any compatibility issues and i love dx10 since i have been on XP for the longest time. UI is great i like the new bar and how it functions. also, i love that you can grab a window and "throw" it to make it bigger on the screen. great OS gonna pre-order at tigerdirect!

I don't know where you get all the vista hate from, I've been using it since it came out and I didn't have any problems with it.

i find that Windows 7 for me loads faster then XP and i have only 2gb ddr2. but i guess it takes up a lot since my g15 is saying CPU:0% and RAM:30% while just on the firefox, but i'm gonna upgrade after summer to i7, can't wait :P .

Windows Vista has a lot of issues. Driver compatibility, application compatibility. UAC is getting about as "popular" as Clippy. UAC I think was a good idea, but poorly executed. Networking in Vista just doesn't seem to work right. I've known many people who had issues getting Vista and XP to see each other on the network and share files.

At one company I worked for, we had a Win2k3 file server sharing out all of our documents for the employees. We got a few Vista laptops and started using them. Vista had a problem accessing network shares. You could open up a Word document on the network share through Windows Explorer and edit it. When we attempted to save it, Windows would give an error saying it could not find the path specified (e.g., saving a document to "N:\documents\presentations\product1.ppt" returns error "N:\documents\presentations does not exist. Create?") Of course the presentations folder exists. We always had to save the document locally and then copy/paste it to the network share. Turns out it was a known bug, and you had to do some kind of registry hack to fix it.

That was with a Microsoft product talking to a Microsoft product. Vista has gotten better since its release, after hundreds of patches, but I don't think it has much to offer over XP.

Some of my issues with Windows are not really Vista, but Windows itself. Why does Windows insist on rebooting for so many different changes you can make to its configuration? Years ago, you couldn't even change the screen resolution without rebooting, but at least they fixed that. Linux has no problem upgrading all your packages (apt-get update/upgrade, emerge -uD world, etc) without requiring a reboot, unless you're upgrading the Kernel. Windows wants a reboot for just about every patch it seems.

Mozilla is part of Linux. At least I think so.

I'm not sure what you mean there. Mozilla is an application suite that can run on Linux or Windows or other OS.
