They can use there lungs, they just dont need the oxygen, that humans need.

i seriously hope they can't

they'll bring it up there as in someone who was recently infected but not yet turned completely joining the network and then infecting the unsuspecting group

But honestly if there was a zombie break-out the possibility of being infected is huge so I doubt more than 10 people from srf would survive :\
