lol @ thread. morals change over generations. we are at a changing point. however imo downloading music isn't immoral. look at all the artist who put their songs on youtube. you can rip the mp3 from straight from youtube all legally without breaking any copyright. yea legal doesn't mean moral but how are you directly hurting them. the idea is you aren't going to buy the song because you downloaded it, that is pure assumption though. thing is people are probably gonna keep downloading music because there isn't a good way to stop it.

The new generation of music listeners are switching from CD's etc to digital means. It only makes sense that piracy of some sort would occur, remember the days of copying songs of the radio to tapes and everyone spazzed out about that being illegal and harming the industry (most people here are probably to young to even know it was an issue haha)

The problem lies mostly with the music industries way of dealing with new artists and distribution of music. The smart ones these days are turning to the internet to deal/advertise/incentivize their music whilst the "old school" labels don't want to change their ways and are causing a fuss.

I have no sympathy to greedy labels that are trying to milk the last remains of their arguments against piracy. The problem of music piracy should be enough of a sign for them to realize that they need to adapt to the new generation of music listeners and maybe shift their focus of earning money from old methods to new ones. Plus, most artists get screwed over by their record labels anyway and are forced into touring if they want to survive (talking about true music artists from every label, rather then mainstream stars that die out after a few years)

So I don't feel immoral for pirating music, since I make up for it when bands come for concerts. I buy t-shirts and merchandise for stupid prices, but I know that the majority of that money will go straight to the band rather then the label which settles the problem of moral issues in my mind.

That's not what I said. I said I shudder at the thought of what you find morally acceptable because you find absolutely nothing wrong with stealing things to directly benefit yourself. And why should I save you any maturity comments? Your replies scream immaturity and inconsideration. Just because you enter a playground doesn't mean it's time to act like a child.

well the difference between you and me is that fact that I don't see downloading as stealing. and even if I would, I'd still do it. And you would indeed shudder at the thought of what I would find morally acceptable, but that's because you're soft and haven't seen sh!t in your life.

treat children childish is what I've always learned :)

The fact that you claim I'm soft and haven't seen shit is nothing more than a baseless assumption. How can you possibly claim this when you don't know much about me, or how old I am?

Not only have you shown that you can barely comprehend the points I'm trying to make (I've had to re-explain myself), but you also give off a very strong feeling of superiority to everyone else. You defend yourself by being "better" than everyone, not having to explain yourself thoroughly because you think you're the old and almighty one.

While your silly way of arguing may hold up to actual younger people, I can't help but see you as someone who is unable to back up anything you say because the reality is you have no defence at all. So you can call me a child without knowing my age all you like, but if the way you express yourself through words is any indication of your maturity (which is much more important than age itself), I'd say you're light years behind most of us.

The mainstream artists are, yes. But since when was stealing from the rich any different from stealing from the poor when it's for personal benefit?

I don't see the point in saying that you feel bad when you download something off the web illegally. I feel comfortable listening to the guy that says he doesn't feel bad at all. But the person who does something while feeling bad about it and yet still does it kinda creeps me out. You're either lying or you're messed up in the head. Seems like some kinda chronic addiction..or kinda like a guy stabbing someone and saying he feels bad about it but does it again and again and again.

Something like the end justifies the means, no?

Nothing to do with being legal/illegal

Or just because the benefits/pleasure outweighs the guilt- not because you have mental issues.
either way the subject is too generalized to really determine whats what.
