I hope there was a good reason to spend so much money on those parts, because what you bought is a server computer. You do NOT need that much ram, and unless your running a server company or are storing a collection of 200 dvds, its a useless waste of money.

Another thing is that you spent the money too soon with no reason to, a large company who runs server can find a good reason to buy a computer like yours because they constantly need the fastest computer to keep up with their user demands. Theres the problem for you, you probably cant buy a new computer every year. Intel is developing a 16 core xeon processor as we speak for servers, and have already engineered a working 8 core CPU that will enter the market in the next 1-2 years

I cant figure out why you would do that... it is just a waste...

some videos cards have a lot of ram, but they can't support the basic of games, you just have to wait until '08 drivers come out. Like a onboard ati radeon xpress 200 has 128mb or 256mb of your pc ram, but a ATI Radeon 9600 has 128 mb by itself, the 9600 is much better, because it doesn't use your systems ram or use and of your processors speed and it cant support up2date shaders and etc etc, dont u notice a lot of games say, doesnt support Xpress series lol, but just wait for drivers man

A reply worth reading.

It was said before that the shadows are f-cked up. I can turn everything on max and run at about 75 FPS but once I hit the shadows I lag(Down under 30FPS). Turn them off and have the time of your life.

there is no way you have 12gig of ram and even if you did vista would only recognize about 4-5gigs of it like how xp can only recognize 2gigs of Ram and having more does nothing

xp 32 bit - max ram it can use is 2048 RAM anything more it just ignores
vista 64 bit? - runs max 4096 RAM anything more it just ignores

it doesn't matter how much memory your motherboard supports if the operating system can't use it

if your mother board has 4 slots it is meant for 4 512mb sticks for 4 1gig sticks anything more is just a waste of money because your system CAN'T use it no matter what you do all programs will recognize only the max amount of RAM your operating system can use

@ the topic starter try removing all but one of those 4 gig sticks it may speed you up a bit since your system wont be using its resources trying to run something it can't

Xp32 bit supports 2gb? crazy?

The maximum amount of memory that can be supported on Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 is also 16 GB. However, Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition supports 32 GB of physical RAM and Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition supports 64 GB of physical RAM

ok i was wrong its not 2gb its 4 also if you have 4gbs 2gbs automatically goes to windows and uses the rest on games and such so 4gbs will feel about the same as 2gbs

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/pl ... AEmem.mspx

only Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition and Windows 2000 Advanced Server support more than 4gbs of RAM
