cry moar. =P My mom was a religious fanatic and grounded me for 6 weeks one time for eating a chicken nugget, because MY FAMILY WAS TOTALLY VEGETARIAN 100% of the time. So I don't really have sympathy for you just getting told you're sinning over a hot dog when I NEVER got to eat meat ever growing up. Actually, I still can't eat meat now (it makes me really sick from a long-term disability) and I'm allergic to milk and eggs, so I just stopped eating honey so I could call myself vegan for simplicity's sake. But yeah. My mom threw away my Pokemon tapes that I spent my money on because she decided out of the blue that it was evil. Oh, she also decided for most of my life that television was evil, therefore we had no TV. Even today she's really controlling of my brothers, but I think after I moved out over Christmas because she tried to confiscate my laptop for "talking back to her" (I WAS ALMOST 19, my God.) she's treating me more like an adult. Which is cool. Because I can't really think of any way that she actually supports me financially, except the occasional birthday present or some food when I come home for a visit. Go college grants and scholarships! Go workstudy! So yeah, I totally understand fanatical parents... just try to go with the flow at home and do your own thing once you get to college. University rocks 100%.

i don't see why ppl think catholics aren't Christians.... Because the Protestant vampires are the protagonists and Father Anderson's only good point is his sexy accent in the dub? lol Hellsing. Also, while most Catholics consider themselves Christians, most Protestants does not consider the Catholic church to be inherently Christian. Protestants and Catholics have a lot of disagreements over interpretations of the Bible and things like that. I sort of equate the Catholic church to a large corporation (lots of district managers and Vice Presidents and things like that, but also lots of corruption) and Protestant churches to smaller chains of businesses or mom&pop stores (They might be more indepently run, but there's still just as much potential for corruption as in the Catholic church).

We're not atheist we're agnostic, meaning we cover our bases. We don't practice religion except when it comes to the just in case stuff. Getting married in a church by a priest (why not city hall, it's just as legal?) baptize the kids (we're never in church for any other thing). Basically we're not sure if their really is a god, so we only do the most important stuff just in case their is.

This thread is proof that religion is too big a part of our lives.

I probably know the Dutch word, but meh. BTW I ate meat last Friday and most Fridays. Sometimes we eat fish at Friday, but that's coincidence.

I guess you could call them "fence sitters" because doing things "just in case" isn't exactly the same as believing and is pretty much an insult to "god's" omnipotence. An agnostic would be someone who believes that humans don't (yet) have the information or technology needed to prove or disprove the existence of a higher being.

Your probably right Inky, I haven't got a good reason why we still do some of the religious rituals while paying no attention to it in our daily lives whatsoever. I just figure, if I lead a nice and just life, if there is some God after this and I have to go before him that will be more than enough, never mind that I went to church every sunday or something else. And if there is no god, then I just left the world a little better off.

Not if s/he lives at home with parents who insist on everyone in the family doing it. Being a vegetarian for all those years was NOT my choice. And yes, I rebelled, but I also was always stuck at the house. Girls get to eat during the day during Ramadan if they're on their period. Also, when I've observed Yom Kippur the past several years I've always been exempt from fasting from all food and water due to health problems, so I usually fast by giving up the internet and eating blander foods (brown rice and veggies with no salt, usually) and only drinking water.
