Why? I'v been looking forward to play this SO FAMOUS FirstPlayerShooter.. I'v seen lots of video of Counter-Strike but I cant seem to see what's so good about it, I mean the graphics aint top-notch,I didnt see any things that other FPS dont got,But thats probably cuz I'v never played it, So tell me if the Graphics dosnt make Counter-Strike an phenomenon, what does? The Gameplay? Why? Why Counter-Strike over other FPS(on PC) like CallOfDuty series,MedalOfHonor,GearsOfWar,SoldierFront & WarRock, Please convince me to get it P.S: What's the best "Source" or "1,6"
This game is ancient has been out for ages, the competitve nature of this game is what kept it soo popular throughout the years (CAL,CEVO,etc) it has amazing Gameplay, the funny thing is it was created by a 15-16 year old kid at the time. It's actually a mod based off Half-Life the game is still the Number #1 FPS played game over the net, but most noobs will enjoy CS Source, because of the "graphics".

Large scale battle fields with realistic battles? Small scale team warfare? Realistic scenarios? Guns that act and are used like their real world counterparts? Come one Dom, Warrock has got CS;S beat and I'm sure there are other games that do the same

Large scale battles? You mean random players driving jeeps or shooting guns pushing in the same direction?
Have you ever seen high tier players play? They sound like a swat team, they spend 20+ hours a week going over door entries, exits, and covers. They literally have a playbook, with diagrams and calls they have to print out and memorize. What you see playing in a pub/scrim/cal-o isn't what i'm talking about. I'm talking about the higher tiers that make counterstrike special and profitable for companies to sponsor.
It's logical. For your large scale battlefields to be truly tactical and realistic, you would need hundreds of people all practicing together playing another group of hundreds praciticing together. Counterstrike scales that down to a point where it's possible for a group of 6-8 guys to spend the time together to hone their tactical teamplay skills.
Counterstrike isn't realistic in it's weapons, they don't recoil or sound like the real thing. But thank god, I rather irrealistic bullets that allow me to respawn after being shot.

dom, you got any vids of "high tier" people playing?
There's videos of them in game, tons of them, but videos of them sitting at a computer are rare, usually they're just tiny clips or a host infront of them talking and you can sort of hear them - i'll look for one now.
This offseason were redoing our playbook and I might post one of two to give you guys ideas, and if I can't find a video i'll see if I can record us during a match.

Gameplay and some vent would be nice.

Sound is everything in CS, the way it works is a masterplay is called @ start. The mid player sticks to a vantage point and calls mods on the play as the round goes through, other than him all you should hear being called is enemy locations and stuff. The reason they practice 20+ hours, is because when you call a play, your team has to know exactly what do to.
A lot of ex-military guys play ArmA, it's crazy shit being in their squad sometimes. I wouldn't say CS is the only game where you'll find people using SWAT-like speech. Last night we were doing a search + rescue operation at night with 3 other guys. Engaged the enemy around the downed pilot at about 350m and killed all of them before they could execute him. I had an M16 w/Acog scope but at that range you still had to aim high to compensate for bullet drop. And even then the gun wasn't dead on accurate. Then we had to get the guy in the blackhawk helicopter we brought over and take him back in pitch black darkness. All of this was like 2 miles into enemy territory at night.
The best part is the two guys we had that used to be in the marines were talking all kinds of soldier lingo. The game surprises me sometimes at how realistic it can get.

WOAH, that sounds epic. How much does the game cost?

i think that realy realistitc shooters are not that fun. Css has the perfect amount of realness to it but its still more of a game than a simulation (like AA)

When it comes to Team Work part TF2 is a much more team based game. I personally don't like the quick rounds in CS:S. I like playing long rounds in round based shooters. Plus the fact you have to buy the weapons give people with more $ butter advantage.
I think the issue a lot of people have with AA is that fact that once your dead, your dead for the rest of the round, you don't respawn. Which leads to people actually caring if they die or not, less people going rambo, and a lot more people working as a team.
AA lost a lot of players with 2.7 due to its heftiness and un-optimizedness(a word? lol). Although it fixed most if not all of the hacking issues. Now 2.8.3.1 is about, its back to its greatness, with no hackers.
CS:S For me was awesome because in my early years I found some awesome friends and Servers (BY far the most important thing). Played for 5 years or so. Some pretty hardcore hours where put in on public servers.
Pluses for me.
*Short Fast Rounds, you love 'em or Lump 'em. *The KNIFE. Made several videos of myself rampaging around DM servers. Oh the endless fun *Realisitic, Gun types at least, not a Big fan of Death Rays TBH. Will check out this ArmA thingy that you guys been talking about, as soon as I get a decent connection at home, and then get lvl 55 in CoD4
