Ok, I saw the original in the theatre and this one I just hated. Nevermind the aliens and all that stuff. Yes, I didn't really care for that angle, as I like the religious mythos that Indy always used in the previous 3. What really bothered me in this one was the unbelieveable crap and CGI in this one. In the previous 3, there wasn't much in the way of CGI and what was there, was understandable (the melting faces, stuff like that). But in this one, Lucas and Spielberg said in the interviews that CGI would be at a minimum in this one, b/c Indy has always been about the realism of the stunts. *SPOILERS* Please tell me where a bunch of farking monkeys swinging along with him is integral to the plot. In the previous 3 when they needed creepy crawlies (snakes, bugs, rats) they used real ones, not these dumbass CGI ones, if you can't use ants, find something else that works in real life. One minute they are using a giant tree cutting machine to get through the Amazon, Indy blows that up and it's time for a chase scene, and all of a sudden there is the equivalent of a two lane highway through the middle of the Amazon, so they can have some lame sword fight across moving vehicles (with more CGI). Where did all this open space come from in the middle of the most dense jungle in the world. And don't even get me started on the stupid waterfall. Ok, maybe one person lives through that, but all 5 of them???? I guess what bothered me, is the originals were made before CGI, so that limited the action to what is physically possible for the most part and to think it was a real guy holding onto the underside of a speeding truck or some guy was hanging from the blown cannon of tank while about to be squished against a rock wall made it way more exciting. And the CGI didn't look all that great. When it's used as a special effect, like the aliens merging, it works, but when they try to make an impossible stunt look real, most times it just fails. Where is it written that all stunts have to be CGI now. These guys were doing this stuff way back in the 1920's, stuntmen did this for a reason it was fun for them, let them continue to do it.
