For those of you currently attending college, or will be in the next year or two, what is your major? The reason i ask is because i am currently an SE(Software Engineer) Major and i don't think its the right major for me. So what have you guys found interesting that would make a good major? I think i plan to stay in the engineering field but i am still open to other possibilities. and just to make it fun. what would be your dream major?

The most important thing when choosing a major is that you like it. And it doesn't have to be the "dream job" that you are "meant" to do, whatever you do there are going to be pros and cons, its never all good or all bad. The reason why you choose your particular major is because you like 80% of your job for example, while everything else you only like 30%.

your asking us what you wanna be good at when you grow up? well, from what i've heard SE or any "E's" take a lot of good marks and courses to achieve but the payoff landing a job in that field could easily earn you 100k a year. myself i am more involved in computer programming and things like photoshop(not exactly sure what category that is).

I was going to major in computer engineering, but I didn't like programming and such. And having liked physics 2 (electricity and magnetism), I switched over to Electrical Engineering.
I still haven't done any upper division courses until next semester, but I think I will like it.

I'm in my senior year communication & micro electronics engineer (3 months till graduation) . tbh i like what i'm studying & i like how i connect my theoretical knowledge to my practical one . so if you like fixing stuff , even making/designing new circuits , or want to be part of the upcoming world communication evolution you can always pick my major .

In a nutshell Quote: They do everything from helping to construct a business plan to overseeing network security to directing Internet operations.
Computer and information systems managers plan, coordinate, and direct research and facilitate the computer-related activities of firms. They help determine both technical and business goals in consultation with top management and make detailed plans for the accomplishment of these goals. This requires a strong understanding of both technology and business practices.
Computer and information systems managers direct the work of systems analysts, computer programmers, support specialists, and other computer-related workers. They plan and coordinate activities such as installation and upgrading of hardware and software, programming and systems design, development of computer networks, and implementation of Internet and intranet sites. They are increasingly involved with the upkeep, maintenance, and security of networks. They analyze the computer and information needs of their organizations from an operational and strategic perspective and determine immediate and long-range personnel and equipment requirements. They assign and review the work of their subordinates and stay abreast of the latest technology to ensure the organization does not lag behind competitors.

^ that's the kind of stuff we learned about. These Binary and Ternary things are just more stuff we're learning about now. Not sure if it has to do with IS. It's boring anyhow.

Anyways, good majors are anything in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Any of those fields are highly valuable and get you a good paying job. My advice to everyone is do whatever you love the most. But if finding a job is important to you, then please don't get any of the degree below or you will have a hard time finding a job (unless u go into teaching). But if you must get one of the degree below since it's your passion, then go double major and spend an extra year in college but it will paid off English Lit. Major: Computer Science Minor: Information Technology
I'll be starting my third year next year and starting a CS major. I've transferred all over for different reasons so I'm a tad behind, but I have a ton of my basics done.. I started out in Electrical Engineering, but something about it just didn't excite me. SO, I plan to give CS a try and think I will like it. I like programming and what not. May minor in CIS..we'll see.
Go with something you enjoy and can see yourself enjoying for a long time. Like everyone else said, the STEM fields are in demand.

I don't understand US college system.
Anyway:
I have a bachelor degree in pharmaceutical sciences and now going for the master degree (1 year and a few months left).
I'll probably do an extra year to become an industrial pharmacist.

There are a ton of things you can do with these degrees that are completely viable, even with the economic issues we're having. You have to take a whole lot more away with you than just the degree though. Blindfire wrote: My plan is to take a Political Science degree and follow it up with Law School. Most people assume you have to have a poli sci degree to get into law school. You don't, but if it's what you like then go for it. I suggest taking an international track and some foreign languages while you're there. It looks good to be well rounded, and NOT like everyone else on the law application list. Good luck with the LSATS

Advice: Do not do Biomedical Engineering, Do not do Pre-med.
They are hell and employment/pay is almost equal in other fields, plus less school.
