The system, developed by a team at the University of Southampton, is said to be the first technology that would allow people to send thoughts, words and images directly to the minds of others, particularly people with a disability.
It has also been hailed as the future of the internet, which would provide a new way to communicate without the need for keyboards and telephones.

Don't really need to read someone's thoughts to know that, most men think about that anyway..

I'm a good person, but I still wouldn't want anyone to read my mind. Sure there's nothing for someone to find, but it would just be weird.

From the look of it, after reading the article, it's a system where a computer first has to be trained to recognise a paricular thought pattern in order to then send a specific signal, the example in the article being: think of moving the left arm for 0 and right arm for 1.

So the machine can't decipher real thoughts, it has to be trained to perform an action after reading a thought.

It also looks like the other half of this so-called brain-to-brain communication, that is the "to-brain" part isn't even direct. It's more or less brain-to-computer-to-eyeball, then they monitored the brainwaves to make sure the eyeball picked up the signal. Total BS and pure hype to call that brain-to-brain. Nothing special.

That's just the begin. Wait till the end. Everytime you think about smt, your brain generated an electric wave, that's the catch

Unless they've got you hooked up to an EEG they won't be picking up diddly-squat signal. As the distance between the detector and the scource (various different parts of the brain with independantly-firing neurons) increases you would become less certain where your signal is coming from. There'd also be interference from any other nearby electrical field, nearby people/ other brains, there'd be no way of having your thoughts accurately read secretly from a distance.

I see no reason, however, if computers were programmed/trained to recognise and decipher thoughs well enough, that you might be able to have your thoughts read while strapped to an EEG.

So it's ok, you can all put your tin-foil hats down.

Hell no, if you could read people's thoughts and they could read yours, it would suck.

*Walks around on the street, seeing a girl walking around who'dd think "wonder what he's like in bed" >> you stare back at her and focus on thinking "Get the **** outta my mind you ugly bitch =["*

*Sitting in class being bored, staring outside the window in thought, thinking off your girlfriend last night >> rest of the class signal each other to check our your thought >> goodbye private life xD*

Same if you'dd have certain issue's at home, or whatever would be going around in your mind :P

So

so long as they aren't able to accurately read my thoughts against my privacy, I'm safe :X :P
