Ok so i recently had to leave my apartment and move in with a friend. I brought my cat along. She is at least 6-8 years old my memory of her is a bit fuzzy cause its not really my cat, its my sisters but i've been taking care of it for the past 3 years. Anyway so i bring my cat along and my friend has a cat too, only they're completely different. My cat is clean, young, healthy looking, has a respectable temperament and is dignified in every way. She's also a completely indoor cat. I NEVER let her outside, there's bugs, and people, and other cats, etc. His cat is dirty whore bitch who should've died ages ago and likes to poop everywhere but her litter box. She never licks her fur probably because she rolls around in her own shit and piss all day and is so fat she can't reach it. Needless to say they didn't get along.

Now my friend says that his cat has fleas but not that many cause they can't survive on her cause she's so disgusting. Around the house i occasionally saw a flea before, nothing too bad. Anyway about 3 weeks ago i noticed my cat was scratching herself terribly. She started scratching so bad she was making herself bleed. It was pretty awful to watch her do that to herself so i got a flea collar. That didn't do shit. So i gave her a bath, which she hates ALOT, she left one of her claws in my arm. So that got rid of them for two seconds but it didn't help because by now the fleas are freakin everywhere. I don't even go into the living room anymore cause it so infested. So she's still scratching herself like crazy and what little heart i have is breaking cause nothing seems to be working. So i give her a bath and apply these drops i bought at PathMark.

Now i dunno if it was the second bath or if it was the drops but now she's stopped eating. I'd say she was also lethargic but i can't tell. When she was healthy she spent most of her time in a comfortable spot just cleaning herself all day. But now she just sits in the bathroom window sill and doesn't move. Im really worried so i moved her food and litter into the upstairs hallway in case she was worried about getting fleas if she went downstairs. Still nothing. I have to physically pick her up and take her to her food for her to eat or drink anything. Even then she doesn't stay long. Money is very tight for me cause most of my paycheck goes to a bit of rent and buying food and transportation for myself so im trying not avoid an expensive vet visit if i can. Does anyone have any experience with cats that can give me advice here?

tl;dr

My cat stopped eating and i don't know why, would like some advice.

Use some meds for a cat that keeps on scratching its body like hell? Or, move out.

1. I appreciated the tl;dr part. Although I actually did end up reading the whole thing.

2. The one of the main problems here is your friends cat. Nothing will improve until it does. Or until your friend get's rid of it.

3. Perhaps you should consider letting your cat become an out door car. Maybe somehow that'll help it. *shrugs*

4. To completly get rid of the fleas you'll probably need something like Terminx.

5. Cat's are useless because they do not provide milk…or wool or meat.

Get your friend to do something. Explain to him your situation and request his help - if he doesnt understand or he is unwilling to act on your part, he isn't a true friend and I wouldnt understand moving in with him.

The best part about this is that you can save that little chunk of change from your paycheck that you're spending on transportation.

I can't move out of this place, im not here because i want to be, im here because i have no choice.

And for the record i love my cat. I don't expect much from her and she doesn't from me but there's alot of silent love there that we don't have to express which really just makes it more solid.

was kinda hoping on advice to get her to start eating again. Cats can get depressed sometimes like people but its hard to tell cause they can't talk and stuff so you just have to pay close attention.

Try putting the food and water near the window sill where the cat sits. Also, wash the bowls. The other cat may have been eating/drinking from them and your cat may be turned away because of it.

Xem that sucks :( I'd be sad/pissed at other cat and roommate if my cat had that reaction as well, sorry to hear about it.

Ummmm I dunno, give him a lot of attention and maybe that will help, I know we give our some flea medicine thing that we put on the back of his neck once a month....seems to work.

And anyway, it sounds like it's unhealthy and nasty in the apartment because of the other cat....talk to the guy about that, I mean a flea infestation isn't good for anyone and is disgusting, talk to the guy and tell him to take care of his cat.

I also agree with Blindfire, those sound like good ideas.

Bring your cat to the local pet store (Petco, Petsmart, etc.) and have him dipped. Also go and get Advantage from your vet. Do not buy the cheapass Advantix shit you get from the store.

Once my cat was acting like yours. He was depressed, didn't eat and just lied in a small cardboard box outside our house. After 3 days I took him to a vet (my parents didn't want to spend money, otherwise I would have took him on the first day). Turned out he ate something poisonous. Probably one of our retarded neighbors left something around. So I'd take her to a vet if I were you.

Tl;dr take her to a vet.

Get the cat a can of the special wet food if you can/don't already. If the cat won't eat that then there's something wrong and should get looked at. I've never seen a pet turn down the wet food before.

Awww, I thought for sure the image of you riding your cat around ( maybe even with a sattle ) would put a smile my pretty boys face. Back to the drawing board i guess. :(

I'm sorry I can't help you with your cat...not really a cat person, they confuse me. But if you're feeding her dry food try wet cat food. Aren't they supposed to enjoy that more? I can only assume you can't force them to eat if they don't want to. So the best thing would be to just try your best at offering her something that might intrigue interest. :?

EDIT:

Damn you Reise.

Go to the vet, they will help you out.
Also you should search for 'Frontline', it's a liquid you need to put in your cats neck every 2-3 months?(Or every month, I don't know :D)
+You say she(or he) hates baths, our cat didn't like it first time, but now she enjoys it :D

Scratching like a bloody maniac doesn't sound like flee's. More like Scurfy. (Or however the hell that's written).

Check your cat for red/white irritated skin.

Or better, check the other one. With a shovel.

I just googled it, haven't read this myself but maybe there's something in there?

http://www.assistfeed.com/Why.htm

I'd try going for more specialized cat forums (I'm sure there are those. In Holland there's forums where people studying medicine, law and that kind of stuff, give free advice. Perhaps there's an American version for veterinarians?)
Anyways, good luck with it. From the looks of it the problem is the other fleabag cat and it's owner.

Check that out. I post fish type questions there. Heh heh, don't put the life of your kitty into the hands of srf!

Tho....

The canned wet food idea sounds like a winner.

Theres also nothing stopping you from giving the other cat a good dunk in the flea bath as well. Wear gloves tho imooo getting bit and scratched up sucks.

Ok. So, first off for fleas ONLY buy Advantage and use that. That's a de-flea and I think de-worming medication, you may need to get it from a vet. You can probably get it from the Humane Society for cheaper. Also, google luv my pet, it's a low cost vet that has clinics usually in Petsmart. They normally do shots, but they might give her an evaluation if you need one. Second, stop bathing your cat, she hates it and it's stressing her out more. The advantage will kill the fleas and hopefully keep them off her. MAKE your friend put it on his cat. I know money is tight, but you really should have a bug service come and spray the house.

Also, are you sure it's fleas and not mange? If the other cat has mange that's a HUGE problem. Is it missing fur? Does it's skin show in areas? See a vet ASAP if you suspect this. Your cat will need medical attention if it's come in contact with it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mange

Now about the eating - your cat is obviously stressed the hell out. You have probably made it worse by bathing her because she thinks she's done something wrong. You're going to need to keep her separate from the other cat as much as possible, make her area as comfortable as possible, put a blanket or something that smells like you near the area she likes, and give her some extra attention until she gets adjusted. This is obviously a big change from her previous living conditions, so she's going to be a stressed for a while.

But definitely see a vet. I'm sorry about your kitty. I would be so upset in your position and I hope you get it worked out.

**EDIT** The more I think about it the more I think you should beat your friends ass and make him clean up his trashy ass apartment and his poor disgusting cat.
