For those that know about PC's which laptop do you believe is best for gaming?

I don't want one thats to expensive i'm thinking of one that is <1000$.

Any recommendations on laptops that can handle high end games?

If your set on an alienware then get a m15x, if not then get an asus better bang for the buck. I should warn you though I had a alienware m17x it was awesome but for the price it had a shitload of bugs, when I pay $1.5k for a laptop I would expect it to be close to bug/error free.

Lol it's common knowledge that alienware is overpriced crap

nvid 335M - crap
11 inch screen? - crap

I bought a gateway for 629.99 + tax
core i3
15.6 inch
ati 4650 gfx card

I play sc2 on med/high, crysis on med/high and evreything else..well med/high.
The best high end laptops IIRC are the asus Gxx line, they are a tad over 1000 (maybe less for some models) but they have i7's 5870's and the works.

As for battery life..well
I get 3~ hours if I don't play games. Haven't tried playing them without a power source as I need my laptop alive for school.

For those that know about PC's which laptop do you believe is best for gaming?

That sentence should never be uttered. If you are going to get a "gaming" comp go desktop.

Desktops can't easily be taken to school.

Otherwise I agree, no alienware, don't know much about asus though.

my laptop has an i5 proc with intel hd graphics for the i5. only 4gb of ram. my windows 7 rating for proc is 7.1 and 3d gaming is 6.0. I play Cod4 at max settings and it runs great! so laptops are fine, but you have to spend some cash. I only paid $900 though for mine

Laptops are not made for gaming. Alienware are douches for even trying it. If you wanna buy something specifically for gaming, a Desktop is always the way to go. The Price -> Performance is always at least double for laptops compared to desktops.

Everyone needs to get over the fact that laptops DO exist for gaming. Why shouldn't they? Find a plug, sit down and play whatever game you want, anywhere you want. Why is that such a hard concept? A gaming laptop is not that expensive compared to what they were 6-7 years ago. My PC in total cost 1400~ My laptop was 629+tax. Both can play games quite well. No shit the price vs performance is different, ONE IS PORTABLE. Why does everyone facepalm at the thought of playing games on a laptop?

Many OEM's put limitations on their hardware so that battery life doesn't suffer too greatly. Laptop video cards and laptop processors are under-clocked, and some do not feature over-clocking capability. Also, OEM's like Sony and Toshiba lock the hardware (makes it impossible to update the drivers without going through them) and do not update their drivers.

Yes, laptops can play games (I play on one), but if you have the money it makes infinitely more sense to buy a good desktop and a netbook or a small laptop.

Edit: "Facepalm" is a strong word. "Frown" is better and we frown because many of us know first hand the limitations to laptop gaming, that's all we mean.

i'd just get one of the dell inspirions and get the upgrades on it. it'll end up costing around 1-2k but inspirions are built well imo and easy to upgrade parts.

don't get alienware... it's pc's verison of overpriced mac

edit: the main difference for me in using gaming laptop is heat. The specs are pretty equilvant now anyways. Desktop is good if you want to add/upgrade parts later on but if not then laptop works just as well. Laptops just can't fit as many fans into case so temperature issues are more common.

Laptops can be used to game, but it's completely useless unless you plan on gaming while traveling >.> Which pretty much cuts out any online game. Most laptops overheat from being on for like 3 hours anymore even just sitting idle. A gaming laptop is sure to generate a lot more heat.

Anyone looking to buy a computer solely for gaming, should know that a desktop is better. Ask any computer engineer that one... (I have actually) the list of reasons is pretty decent and makes sense. Ranging from overheating, to limitations of power/graphics to room for upgrades/additional hardware needed to make existing hardware work at optimum potential. technology is getting smarter yea.. but it's still not small enough to fit a Modern Gaming Desktop into a laptop. Because when that happens, Desktop will be able to fit that much more.

It only makes infinitely more sense if someone can use a desktop in place..Different things for different people. I can't drag my desktop around and I like to play games. Simple =\

I spend lots of time at university, sometimes 12-14 hours a day. Can't drag my desktop there when I'm in the mood to play some fallout 3. The laptop overheating comment is just blind ignorance. No laptop should overheat from sitting idle, and no laptop should overheat from playing games for 3 hours. You do realize an HD movie uses graphical processing too right? You CAN watch 3 hour movies without your laptop freezing. In fact you can watch 30 of them in a row with no issues because this isn't 1999 where laptops are shit. If you're telling me an ATI 5870 is not a good enough graphics card to last for a good 2 years then I don't know what to tell you. People still use Nvidia 8800's, and that cards been out for a very, very long time.

Mine can't run it on ultra, but I run it medium/high.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeF ... 439.0.html

(thats the model gaige just mentioned), you can google the gfx card and notebookcheck is usually the first link that pops up. Skim through the technical terms and find out what it can play and on what settings. I actually just looked through futureshop/bestbuy because they had the best prices, and that's how I picked out my laptop.

Lol... yea ignorance >.> I've had 3 laptops and they all got pretty hot way too fast compared to my desktop. Running games on high end like he was saying would generate a lot of heat from Cpu and Gpu and it would be sure to put some pressure on ram as well. It's always smart when using high end Computers be it a PC or a laptop to use a motherboard monitoring tool and keep and eye on cpu temp and motherboard temp. I do acknowledge that I left out "High End/Gaming" laptops that made me think about overheating. I thought that was implied when the topic title is Alienware...
And crappy laptops don't tend to overheat as much due to low cpu power, so that may be why you don't experience any heat from it.

And I mentioned they are good if you plan on traveling(Yes that means school since you travel from home to there). Perhaps you missed it so I'll bold it for you.
