Hey Guys, long time no see. How you guys been?

Well, as some of you know, ill be heading off to University this year, and as preparation for Uni, i need to buy a laptop.

Well, ive never really been the "laptop connoisseur" thus i don't have the most knowledge in laptops, i'm just skilled in the ways of the PC. So i do know the importances of RAM and stuff.

So, anyway there was a big exhibition in town for the past 5 days, and ive been going around looking at a couple of cool laptops, ive found some that i liked, some i didn't like, but nothing that made me go. Yes, this is the one *buy*

I was looking for two types of LapTops, Tablet and Regular. My father wants me to buy a Tablet with Digitizer technology for Uni, he said it would be excellent for writing notes and so on, cuz its just so easy. Personally i really dont mind either one, but they do need to be able to game which is something important for me.

So, i need your guys help. Below are the three tablets that caught my eye.

What i need is for you guys to let me know what you guys think of them, if you own them that would be great.

However, if not that then could you guys suggest some laptops for me to get? As i told you, im not the biggest connoisseur of laptops, thus i'm kinda noob in this. I dont really mind the brand, as long as it can game effectively, and if your worried about Budget, then about $2,500 would be my highest.

Regards,
Key-J

DO NOT USE INTEL GRAPHICS CARD FOR GAMING!!!
They are epic fail.

HP tx2000 Tablet PC

It has the nVidia 6150go Basically the same card on myn

I can run CS: S, SRO, GTA SA, Half Life 2 With Decent FPS :)

But your pretty f*cked if you get a laptop with Intel graphics card
My friend had a Intel 945 Something and he couldnt even run Silkroad on the lowest settings possible, He was getting <12 FPS

Seems to be the best out of them all

But its really up to you

If I was to choose the best one out of those three, I'd choose HP tx2000 Tablet PC mainly because it's a good balance between academic and gaming use. Although I would normally suggest something with at least GeForce 7 series but I think 6150 is more than enough for SRO.

+1 But yea...upgrading to a 7-8400 series won't be much..50 bucks?

Not if it's a laptop...if it was that easy, I would've upgraded my laptop to an 8 series a long time ago.

I have an almost identical to that tx2000, mine looks the same and is 12.1". I like it a lot, but realize that taking notes through typing, for formatting, or in a notebook, is much easier than writing it on a touch screen.

If I were to buy another PC laptop, it would be the same one, but I regret not getting a mac. I use my desktop for gaming, so all I use my laptop for is office/school work, and although that laptop is stable, there's just something that seems cluttered about its interface, maybe because it's 12.1".

Oh, and from the korean mmos that i've tried, they all work, and I tried CSS on it as well which works fine.

Still pretty shitty, and not that great of a deal considering you can get midrange laptops on sale for ~$400US ;)

400.00 USD ~ £200.00 ... £55 for a brand new laptop that is infinitely better.

definitely HP tx2000 Tablet PC

it has a decent graphic card, lots of GB for a laptop, but I would recommend an Apple Mac.

Lol, nice one there dom.

So, you think that it is easier just to type down things than to write them on the tablet? Interesting.

What about normal laptops guys? Like non-tablet. Are there any i should be going for?

Well, there's other uses for the touch screen. The TX series from HP is very solid, and in it's price range you won't find much better; or atleast I couldn't when I bought it this September.

Acer/Dell/Compaq are garbage. HP is a solid midrange choice, Sony makes really good high-end stuff, and if you're looking for best value for price, toshiba would be the place to go with good cheap low-end stuff. The only thing I don't like is all the extra stuff companies like cramming onto a PC, trial versions and "bonus software". Those can be cleaned on most laptops through the deleting and repartitioning of your HD if your laptop comes only with a "repair/restore" feature instead of the windows cd itself, but if you're using a fingerprint scanner or touch screen you might need some of that software and it takes a little more time to thoroughly clean everything.

Well,

What about the tablet itself? Like do you think its worth opting for a digitizer? Like do you use it for notes during lectures and stuff? I dono if thats the best, i mean the price doesnt change that much with or without digitizer, but its just the functionality, build and like screen size that makes a difference.

I mean, is it truly better and more functional to take notes in writing, or should i just opt for a normal one and type em down?

Using it like a normal laptop, it still performs extremely well, and I would recommend getting an HP laptop similar to that one. I found having a 12.1" laptop really handy when taking notes, since most of the time in lecture halls the desk thing attached to your seat is not even 12.1" wide, having to put a standard sized laptop on that would be difficult, most people have to put away the palette and rest it on their lap which makes it uncomfortable when you have a 3 hour lecture with a porto-heater melting your shorts to your body.

Maybe you should just check one out and try writing with it, and see if you like it. Either way, the laptop itself, without using the touch screen, is a good choice.

I picked the TX series because of the size and weight, it's nice to not have to carry around a huge backpack on campus all day.

I agree with you completely, when i was testing out even in the show room, the heat well i felts it XD. N yeah, i have tested writing on it, and its not bad, i guess it does take some time to get used to it, like to master it.

Hmmm, it does seem like a good choice in laptop. Much confusions i have

Gonna give you a decent word of advice here..

Do not game on your laptop..

My cousin does that and many many other people i know do/done that and their laptop fails within the year.

Laptops are just not built for gaming. Period. They overheat way too quik and upgrading/repairing hardware will cost u a load of money and not to even mention how long it would take for them to fix it and send it back to you..

As for which one to pick, i'd go for HP over anything. HP = win.

i would only use a tablet pc for graphic design work or
e-drawing. i've never heard of anyone taking notes by
writing on their tablet pc's tbh.

and, did you look at any laptops with screens larger than
12.1"? it just seems so damn small T_T i thought the
standard nowadays was 15.4", most people i know have
either 17" or 20" notebooks.

also, the graphics cards.. idk, but my old laptop (about
3,5 years old) had a geforce go 6200 in it, which was not
too bad for gaming, but i'd say if you were to buy a brand
new one, go with something better?

and could you tell us the prices of these notebooks? because
i'd like to know how much they ask for these >.< there are
15.4" laptops (not tablet though) with core2duo, 160gb hdd,
nvidia geforce 8 series 512 ded., 2gb ram for 500 euros here.
