How can you even compare a Pirate to a Ninja?
Pirates are just.. old shits with a sword, no training of any type.. just common thieves on the ocean.

Ninjas, on the other hand.. spend most of their lives training to become a true ninja. They train more than the body - they are just........... you know what, this is just too stupid to even discuss.

Ninjas all the way. They are trained and they can throw weapons just like pirates, but they just use guns.

Don't pull the "Pirates sneak up on unsuspecting merchants so ninjas are better." example. Ninja sneak up on their targets don't they? Not much of a difference there.

And pirates didn't just prey on those poor unsuspecting merchant ships either....they took quite a few forts during the golden age of piracy, it's hard to sneak up on a fort, which is something that's usually never unsuspecting.

And, really, come on...

Pirates have the girls, the rum, sailing on the open seas and just relaxing, not having to be uptight all the time, and they are just awesome.

Pirates had skilled men in their tripulations:

English corsairs: Elite mercenaries with special training, their activity was supported by the english crown, they were skilled with musqueteirs.

Spanish pirates: Those guys were usually mercenaries or unemployed soldiers from the "tercios", infantry unit famous for fighting in the walloon territories of the netherlands, they were skilled swordsmen/pikemen.

Dutch pirates: Pretty agressives they even robbed other pirates. they were ussually unemployed soldiers/mercenaries with lot of experience, this guys controlled the caribbean for years because of the fire power of their ships.

After years of piracy the requirements to be a pirate decreased... even thieves and women were recruited, but they always had skilled men onboard.
I´m talking about the golden era of piracy, from 1550 to 1720, the piracy in the caribbean sea.
Of course some tripulations were mixed but they were ussually english, french, spanish and dutch.
After some years the english crown changed his policy about the corsairs and condemned it, this marked the end of the piracy.

IMO it depends on setting.

In an open, grassy field, a pirate would win; in a more complex setting, a ninja would win due to his/her stealth. Vikings, on the other hand, would win regardless.
