It creates a virtual drive that you can mount CD images on.

Windows 7 will have virtual drives built in, or so I hear.

I thought it made a virtual cd/dvd player for downloaded games etc (ISO files or something)

how do you mount the images (or does daemon tell you how to do it?)

also what is the point of mounting images in the first place anyways?

thanks

Once you install it (make sure you don't install the voluntary adware), you get a system tray icon after you start it up. Right click the tray icon, and from there you can mount an image.

Mounting is mainly useful if you regularly download images of things to be installed, and don't want to burn them. It's also useful for older games which required the disc to run (not just for copy protection), because you don't have the drive constantly spinning up and being a nuisance.

Hmmmm... pardon my butting in but maybe there is some confusion about the word "images". When speaking of mounting a drive image (or a virtual CD) these are not "pictures" but instead are emulations of the disk itself.

DAEMON Tools supports the following image files:

  • cue/bin
  • iso
  • ccd (CloneCD)
  • bwt (Blindwrite)
  • mds (Media Descriptor File)
  • cdi (Discjuggler)
  • nrg (Nero)
  • pdi (Instant CD/DVD)
  • b5t (BlindWrite 5)

Yes, a virtual CD could be used to store pictures (I guess?), but that is not what is meant by CD Images.

thanks, I was wondering what "mounting images" meant. My friend was playing age of mythology and he didn't have a cd in his computer, so I asked him how he could do that, and he told me to use daemon

yes, it is like a thing that makes it so you don't need a cd.

Like, im lazy to put and leave my starcraft cd in my system tray, and i used daemon to mount my broodwar.cue to play it without cd
