ok here's the deal i thought while watching the last match.

Name the sponsors you remember you've seen on the eurocup matches. -Those lil boards next to the field- (notice the image for an example, on this case, Ford, Heineken).
Image

Rules: no googling', or watching the reviews of the matches and stuffs like that, you cant post images, just say the sponsors you remember. It's all about your memory!

are the companies losing money on that kind of publicity?

I asked this same question to my workmates and only one of them said 3 different sponsors.

I thought the same, sponsoring for such tournaments cost big bucks and I could not get myself to remember the names to post.

Why would they be sponsors if they would lose money?
They just want their name to be known, and its working.

how is it working when you can only remember 10% of the brands being around the field.

No I dont remember right now. Do I know them? Yes, and thats why they sponsor.

lol exactly.

It's not like those budweizer zepellins you see on the american football matches, that remains on your mind; or the girls carrying a sign saying which round the boxers are going to fight (wearing <insert brand here> sexy clothes, that means the publicity somehow it worked. But it would be unfair to compare that kind of publicity with the one i posted tho.

I work on a company making campaigns for a lot of different stuffs. And today when we were watching that match, i had that thought, i was like "is that really working?, how many people watching the match will remember what brands were on those boards?". Of course they know what brands once you show it to them. But if you ask them which ones were on the field, they barely say one, or two (points to the replies of the guys-none of them have said more than one brand) :)

i think we all know them, and yeah that's why they are sponsors. But i'm judging the HOW do they promote it, and if that is really working.

Apparently not.

edit: i'd love to see more replies of people watching the eurocup.
I'll show this to my workmates tomorrow lol.
edit2: and i only remember McDonalds.

Wouldn't those signs be more subconscious than anything?

Like, you're watching this however long soccer game, and the whole time the players are running by the same signs.

Consciously, you don't pay much attention to the signs, but subconsciously, they are stored in your mind so the next time you go to buy shoes, you will subconsciously remember that Adidas sign you saw during the game.

hey ty for that reply. And i agree with everything you said. That subconscious thing you talk about is also part of the merchandising methods, and it could be applied on this case. But then again, putting some signs around the field doesnt help that much.

They shud hire this!

lol of course you don't remember them. but this is more like subliminal advertising meaning you probably won't remember them if you try but they get stuck in your memory/subconscious after seeing them several times

It doesn't cost much to publicize on a small billboard next to the field.
Usually the team sponsors get the first dibs, the rest just fill up.
The big bucks comes during the commercials, like that damn sony bravia commercial that PLAGUES the uefa champions leage.
On topic, i can only remember ford and heineken.
