I cant find it on my moms HP dv9000

i tried to google image search "HP dv9000 key layout" but i coulndt really find a diagram or anything. and i dont own one so i cant help you. sorry.

WTF is f lock?

F lock is kinda like shift but for the F buttons(F1-F12) as well as the other buttons in the entire row that have 2 functions(usually on laprops).

Look for a key with Fn on it (thats on my laptop). It's between the left Ctrl and windows button on my laptop

You mean the Function button, ie the fn? button. Mines in between control and windows buttton on the left.

Basically, because laptop keyboards are usually smaller than a regular keyboard, they can't have quite as many keys as a regular keyboard, so they add those buttons by making you press something to get that function. Think of it as pressing SHIFT + #key to get !@#$%^&*(), only instead of "!@#$%^&*()" You'll get buttons like the F1-12 or volume control, or a few other keys as well.

Normal keyboards have them tooo...Its like Num Lock(which locks it so you cant type #'s using the number pad). Similarly F Lock locks the F buttons.

Let me give an example(sro related unfortunately): Look at F12, you will see that it also has Print on it. Now if you press it in sro you will see that the party window comes up, but if you press F lock and try F12 now, you will see that the interface(mini map, char info in top left, skill bar...) disappears. Also if you try to press PrtScn to take a screen shot it wont work until you press F Lock again.

Eh, my F12 only has F12 on it.

Yeah well figured out few days ago , before i saw this thread , just played with the media player buttons , comes very handy to use when you play games no need to press start button

i have an keyboard of microsoft and they have the F lock
all the F keys have 2 functions here in this list you see what:
F1 Help
F2 undo
F3 redo
F4 New
F5 Open
F6 Close
F7 Reply
F8 Fwd
F8 Send
F10 spell
F11 Save
F12 Print
and 2 other ones:
PrtScn sysRQ Insert
Pause Break Scrl lock couse in the pad above arrow keys you only have Delete Home End PG Up an PG down
if you press the F lock key the normal functions of the F's like switching skill lists in sro will be disabled. those functions will be enabled and in reverse if you press it again.
Annoying for making Screenshots tho. You will have to press F12--- F-lock----------- Print screen and to get back hunting F---lock and F12
