Do you ever wonder? What's on the other side? What will you feel as your dying? Relief? Euphoria? Will the answer to religion come? Will there simply be darkness?

I've been mulling over this question quite a bit lately. I'm curious to see what others think.

For me there is nothing after death, your conciousness ceases to be and so do you.

What was there before you existed?

I've thought about that before, but if you think about it, there's no documentary you can watch, no book you can read, and no one that knows. so why ponder the unknown when there is no answer until it actually happens?

in theory nothing

but that is a totally different question with a totally different discussion.

You've actually hit on something else I've been pondering quite a bit recently. Science explains how and where we came from, how the brain works and lots of other things.

Just one of the things of wondered about a lot is how ions and electrical impulses in the brain become our thoughts, actions, and knowledge.

I've been thinking a lot lately, its kind of odd. I've come to the explanation of no explanation quite a bit. When you have no explanation what is the answer though? Some say god but I do not accept that there is one. What next?

I came to that conclusion as well. The problem is I'm naturally a very curious person, but at the same time I've been depressed for a couple years now. It has put me in a pretty scary position. I don't want to find out on my own though, so I came to the forum to get some other peoples views.

once you die you die as stupid as that sounds, dont worry about it couse you wont feel a thing

the last thing you should worry about is what will happen to you after you die, i am personally donating my body to science and if i reach age 90 or so and i see myself as a oxygen sucking body mass ill make a vid of a headshot seriously lol but that is if i am not healthy enough to enjoy life itself which i dont think many 90 years old are

if you want to worry about something let it be an slow lousy death, treasure your body you only have one

there is nothing after you die... Dats why im going to freeze myself like in futurama one day:)and i will wake up after 100,200 or 1000 years and see if its possible to be immortal....cause im really afraid of death.

Well, if consciousness is measured by brain activity then when you die you cease to exist consciously. Of course your physical body will still be there (to rot) but the mind (if the chemical interactions stop then so does the mind) is *gone*. Everything ceases to function and you cease to exist "consciously". This, of course, assumes consciousness is measured in brain activity; therefore, if there is no brain activity there is no consciousness. There is nothing for us after death. This answer will probably raise more questions but it's all in the pursuit of knowledge.

Some people like to propose supernatural ideas. Attribute the afterlife to god(s), souls, ghost, reincarnation and what not. Could those be the answers? Well, until it can be tested (it never will be "testable", *supernatural*) one usually comes to the conclusion (in the absence of faith) that there is no afterlife.

For me its either nothing or heaven.

I don't wonder, theres no need in all honesty. Death isn't a negative thing at all, in fact its a good thing. Without death life is meaningless, it lacks reason to do anything and a life without death ruins motivation to even live ( though wheres the choice? ). Knowing that life will end is what motivates to make the most of our time, to find happiness while we can and achieve our dreams.

Whats to come? who knows, who cares. Im gonna live my life while im here. When i die, i die. Simple.

My dream is that's there an 'answer heaven'. Some almighty creature (not a god or whatever) has all the answers to all the questions you ever wanted to know.

After that I'd have my 40 virgins, please.

Why not take a gun and blow your brain away to see how the other side is like? You will simply rot and no u wont go to heaven, nor hell.

I mean cuz think of this example:

My friends dad was sitting in bed and all of a sudden he collapsed. He was having a massive heart attack. He fell and hit his head on the dresser but still my best friend managed to resusitate him. His last words were my friends best name "Chris". Then he died.

So my question is this: What happend in that fraction of a fraction of a second that made my friends dad stop living? What is it about life that it can be taken away so quickly. Is it true that we do have souls or an essence that keeps us alive?

Im applying it to everything living in general. What keeps things alive but in that moment of death is taken away and causes things to stop living?

Brain Activity. In old age the brain can no longer sustain the activity required to keep one living. Think of gears that get rusted and eventually stop turning.

Yes but what about an infant? Im not just focused on dying from old age im focused on what happens to make things die.

Usually there's a cause of death for infants. They don't just "die."
