I've been curious about this as of late... I guess its almost a question of ethics.
Before i say anything, though, i'd like to say that this thread is not intended for flaming of any sort. I am simply curious about a collection of differing and possibly conflicting opinions, and i enjoy an intelligent discussion as much as the next guy. If anyone starts flaming anyone in this thread, mods, just lock or even delete the topic, as this is not meant to be that in the least bit.
Pretty much everyone left around here hates bots, but I'm curious about something, now that there's the No-DC argument going around. It seems in the case of the No-DC argument that a lot of people categorize it as legit if it is built into the client by Joymax. Some others don't. But what exactly is the reason behind each argument?
I submit this scenario, however unlikely, and the question is, what would you do?
Joymax builds a bot or some sort of auto-training into their game.
This brings to light an interesting question, one that I hadn't thought about until a few days ago:
Is the bot itself the problem? Is gaining exp without work the problem, or is it simply the fact that it's a modified version of the game? I suppose this question can be extended to include all mods for SRO: Is the added functionality itself the problem with the game, or is it that its modifying what the developer intended to be, or is it even more simply that someone has something that you don't?
Since this is a question of what people's opinions are in this matter, it would probably be rather selfish of me to not provide my own opinion.
My own opinion is that if joymax were to include a bot or auto-training function in the game, i probably would end up using it, simply because i am often a competitive person in that if i can get an edge on something i will. I don't aspire to be the best at everything, but i hardly ever turn down an opportunity to be one step ahead, if the cost of doing so is less than the gain.

Joymax already made that. There is a Auto Attack ( visible ) and a Auto Target ( invisible ) You just need pk2 edit to make it visible. So they already made it.. Just took it out ;x

I know there is an auto-target function for hostile players only - i use it. if this function was in the game any more recently than 2 years ago then i dont know how it could have been in the game without me knowing about it.

No. If you press A you see a list with actions. There is a Auto Attack option ( attack a mob press that 1 and you will slap till hes dead ). They also made a Auto Target option. That selected a mob for you. Only they HIDDEN it. But they did made it.

that's interesting... i also noticed in the pk2's some other options like auto pet healing and such, that seem to appear nowhere in the game. I wonder if they were removed/unfinished because of game balance or because of development difficulty and/or deadline?

I know there is an auto-target function for hostile players only - i use it. if this function was in the game any more recently than 2 years ago then i dont know how it could have been in the game without me knowing about it. Auto-Target function only targets mobs that are in your immediate vicinity. It has not been implemented yet, and unless you modify the predetermined distance (like 3 meters) to the maximum (like 21 meters) there is no possibility of using this as a bot. Other games have Auto-Target and Auto-Atk, SRO's auto-target is only used when you get mobbed. I can draw a painting to illustrate if needed. OnT: I determine legit as: Not modifying the client, this includes: reversing updates (i.e.) no d/c, using Pk2, modifying the client to increase auto-target distance after pk2ing it in the game. No Modification, no changes, if these changes were previously in the game then removed, they (the changes) stay removed until Joymax re-adds them, not using 3rd party programs. To keep it simple: Abiding by the rules laid down in the ToS. Since auto-target + auto-attack cannot be turned into a bot without aid from 3rd party programs you shouldn't worry much about that. Adding a fully functional bot to the game defeats the purpose of playing the game. Joymax should know this. If they were to add one, their silk sales would drop, rapidly (then rise, slowly). Not only from players leaving the game (due to disgust) but also from players being able to 24/7 grind without ever having to pay for a gold ticket. Eventually silk sales will pick back up, with a new breed of players who don't know how to play.

What would be a better idea, is an exp scroll, instead of a bot. You activate the scroll inside a safezone (town) and your char sits down, you are unable to move/trade/teleport/follow etc... you can only chat with your friends untill your time if over, and your char has to be ingame in order to let the timer work.
This would be better than bots, but it's not really a good idea, because all the major silkbuyers could lvl in no-time like this!

This would be better than bots, but it's not really a good idea, because all the major silkbuyers could lvl in no-time like this! They also can sell scrolls witch gives you max level in 10 seconds. Why bother giving money to botsellers buy a scroll called autolvl90 or whatever lvl you want and thats it. There would be no sence of botting then if joymax makes those scrolls for same price as bot to get det lvl. I know idea is lame but JM is lame 2. What it gives to normal players? No botters = free space, max lvl wont be big deal anymore then, anyway it's not big deal new 2 cause high usualy are botters or pwrlvlnoobs. (seriously this plvl sh*t is pathetic I know alot of peaps who dont even level they get gold(buy it) and ask for plvl, they aint better then botters) .

i knew this thread would go off track after only a few posts.
dont talk about whether bots are good or bad or implementations of better or worse ways to auto-level...
just assume that the concept of getting exp with no work exists in sro, in any way you want to think of, i dont care.
would you, or would you not use it?

if joy max made and distributed their own bot(under joy max name(for you conspiracy people)) chances are their would be no client less so making bot company's work harder to get gold. and if there was a client less joy max would make a way to detect it and ban client less/other bot programs and ban them.
