So.. We've all probably had some, good and bad, experiences with guilds. I've realized that alot of the bad experiences has been caused by bad adminstration from the Leader, and that the good ones come from strong friendship and loyalty. And guilds with strong friendship's that's ruined by the GM.

Anyway, my plan is to start my own guild, and before I start I thought that I could do some research so that I can be a good guildleader.

I have a few questions that I want answered by you, I've catagorized 'em so that you just answer those who are asked YOU.

Question(s) to other Guild-Leaders
1. What makes a guild good? Strong friendship or individuals?
2. Have you bumped in to any common problems, that I might have use of?
3. Define a good guildleader

Question(s) to Guild-Members
4. What makes your guild good/fun, or if it isn't, bad.
5. Why are you in a guild? To be the strongest guild, to have fun..?
6. What makes your guild-leader a good one? And if (s)he's not, why?

Question(s) to EVERYONE (including those who answered 1-3, 4-6)
7. Would you like to be in a guild?, and why? (for those who didn't answer 1-3, 4-6)
8. If I was to create a guild, after reading that those who were in the same timezone were the strongest, should I do the same?
9. If I was to create a guild, I would like to have a guild were loyalty, pride, honor and such were priorities. Therefore, what should I think about so that I don't recruit duchbags? Example: Avoid yelling "Recruit lv30+" in town.

Yeah, and then there was this name thing.. I've thought of

- warders
- Ancients
- Alliance

sofar, any tip(s) on other names, and if anyone of these, which?

Thank(s) for reading all of this bs.

1. So umm.... I have no idea whether my guild is good or bad... but i love it
2. Constantly keeping active people in the guild is hard especially if you don't know anyone to start off the guild with you.
3. I have no idea

7. Yes? I like the company
8. I happen to have a hodgepodge of people in a while bunch of timezones. It's nice to have someone on no matter wut time of day I happen to log on.
9. Try to let people in only after you've known them for awhile. You should have some sort of conversation with them beforehand. After you let 1 person in who you like, letting in their friends tends to help the guild grow in a positive direction. Nothing like references ^^

Great tips, yeah I've been on this reference thingy myself, and I have alot of friends but really none to start with.

Anyway, keep 'em coming :)

Me and matt have been guild leader of fairylanders at one point so i can define some questions for ya.

Question(s) to other Guild-Leaders
1. What makes a guild good? Strong friendship or individuals?
IMO A good guild is based on friendships that you have between the people you add them to, me and 70% of our guild have known each other for several years before we played this game and have grown to become great friends with each other and even though we've added people outside the game we played we've become very good friends with each other and to me that's what counts. Individuals don't make a good guild only the guild as a whole do.

2. Have you bumped in to any common problems, that I might have use of?
You got to becareful of haters... our guild broke up one time cause someoen had a problem with Juey being the guild leader for what I would think is stupid reasons, almost everyone left the guild, but everyone came back later except for two people. This doesn't always happen, but just so you know, be on your guard..

3. Define a good guildleader
A guildmaster is how you make it, my personal preference, a guild master is someone I can talk to if I need help or someone I can just jam with just having fun. Just someone who's friendly like I am but at the end of the day, you know he's got your back on any situation.

Question(s) to Guild-Members
4. What makes your guild good/fun, or if it isn't, bad.
80% of us use team speak so we can hear each other and communicate with each other easier, it's also good if your clans active to so more people to talk to and get to know better.

5. Why are you in a guild? To be the strongest guild, to have fun..?
I'm in my guild to have fun, but be strong enough to fight off our enemies cause you will encouter them on your journey of becomming a good guild. Just try and enjoy your guild while you can, you never know what kind of situations happen.

6. What makes your guild-leader a good one? And if (s)he's not, why?
Juey's a bit of a noob, but he's a good noob lol. He set's goals for himself and is determined to complete them, which is good, and when it comes to guild releated he sets goals for us as a whole that we should do, like when we were trying to max lvl out the clan, we got set goals to get max gp for them, which we did cause we were motivated to add more of our friends into the guild. I think that Juey could be the best clan leader for our guild and even though people may have a problem in forum or in game I wouldn't want anything to be changed about that.

Question(s) to EVERYONE (including those who answered 1-3, 4-6)
7. Would you like to be in a guild?, and why?
I would like to be in a guild cause solo is honestly boring if you have no one to talk to, and eventualy you'll get tired of acusations of you being a botter since most botters in greece are guildless, but that's not really the point of being in a guild. Being in a guild is so you can great to know other people that you have a common interest with and know them better and become good friends with them.

8. If I was to create a guild, after reading that those who were in the same timezone were the strongest, should I do the same?
Don't think I understand this question, do you mean make a guild with your own timezone? Well, it's good if you had guild memebers in your own time zeon so you could see almost all of them at the same time which would make things better for guild wars etc to.

9. If I was to create a guild, I would like to have a guild were loyalty, pride, honor and such were priorities. Therefore, what should I think about so that I don't recruit duchbags? Example: Avoid yelling "Recruit lv30+" in town.

Theres nothing wrong with yelling in town about hiring people will whisper you and you can get to know them from there. If you don't want to do that you can always get to know people by where you train at just talk to them and get to know them, theres many more ways you can do this but i've rambled on alot. Good luck on making a guild and have fun ^^

Leader questions

1: A guild is good for both indiiduals and friendships i know th names of all my members and where abouts they live and keep a strong link to them all

2:The only prob you may get is leveling the guild from 1-2 most members will be fairly new and unwilling at this point to donate s you need to do it your self so save up 3mil

3:A strong leader must be firm to his rules, friendly, ACTIVE and most of all seem strong to outsiders..you cold be a carebear and it wont matter as long as outside players see you as a terminater

Everyone questions

1:Most players want to be in a guild so it has to be strong yet friendly one

2:Wanna make a guild? go ahead you wil find members there level dont matter they wil grow

3:You can enlist from over chat but do not rely on it try and find members more from chatting to them randomly also players who have no guild and join your party are great..do not forget to use forums to enlist

Sounds great, Jay had some really good tips about how to keep a guild alive, and what problems you may encounter.

And MaSter_Wong, thanks for your comments about how to be a strong guild leader. I'm sure it will come in handy. And I recognize the lv1-2 problem, I wasn't to willing to donate cash myself when I joined lv1 guild(s)

Question(s) to other Guild-Leaders
1. What makes a guild good? Strong friendship or individuals?
Both. But active, loyal and driven is what you are looking for.

2. Have you bumped in to any common problems, that I might have use of?
Anyone who begs in any way or wont contribute, kick them. Dont do "run by recruiting". I have found by experience that with a few exceptions, you only get the dregs when you try to global recruit. Let your guild shine for itself and be its own recruiting tool. Your members will make friends nad they will join and that is what you want, they will fit in better.

3. Define a good guildleader
Fair, fun and laid back. Anyone who gets their panties in a bunch too easily really shouldnt be a guild leader. You gotta be strong and flexible at the same time and anyone who is too uptight wont be able to do that.

Question(s) to Guild-Members
4. What makes your guild good/fun, or if it isn't, bad.
Avalon is fun because we do a lot together. Just look at our movies. We talk to each other everyday in Vent and that is also what makes Avalon the shit. I would say, that for a very successful guild, Vent or some other voice program is very necissary. You will see that most of the non Vent ppl will come and go, but those in Vent will be with you a long time.

5. Why are you in a guild? To be the strongest guild, to have fun..?
Companionship. That is my reason. I started TE just to be in the same group as the ppl I came to SRO with, but then that turned into a real drive to succeed. When I met Fly that dream took on all new heights.

6. What makes your guild-leader a good one? And if (s)he's not, why?
Fly is completely loyal to us and in return, us to him. So that is always important. Regardless of what we have done, Fly will be the first to stand up and defend us, Im usually right there too. One by one, all will. Fly has very few specific rules, we are mainly self governed. He has absolute rule, but takes everyone's opinions and ideas into consideration. During war is really the only time you can really tell that Fly is the utter leader of the guild. Everyone goes quiet and does what he says. We have only lost one war in all the time I have been playing with him. As a matter of fact., the forst time I met him was in war..... he won of course.

i started my guild not long ago, now is only lvl 2, but so far i've been enjoying it.

Question(s) to other Guild-Leaders

1. What makes a guild good? Strong friendship or individuals?

i think it is better to have strong friendship than strong individuals, when you say strong individual, i think you mean like high lvl players that plays really well. anyway, if your guild have high lvl players that players good but doesn't work togather or even doesn't like each other, there is no point to have a guild. it is friendship that make the guild good. so they can work togather to do trade runs, thief huntings, unique boss hunting, or whatever u doing.....

2. Have you bumped in to any common problems, that I might have use of?

sometimes you don't remember who is who in your guild. it happens a lot when you get more and more members in your guild. when i started my guild, i have 8 players in the guild already, coz they are all my real life friends, and i also give them the authority to join more members, coz i trust them. and when they join up more members in. i starting to mix up this person with that person, coz i forgot this is which friend's friend.....u know what i mean.

also, you might wanna tell your friends what type of player you want, so they recruit the right player for you. set your self some rules, for example, they have to at least lvl 20+, active player, understands and type good english. also let them know that your guild is a trader/hunter guild, or a thief guild, etc.

3. Define a good guildleader

i think a good guildleader needs to be friendly and talk to their members, no matter they are your real life friends or someone you just recruited on the server. talk to them make them feel that they are important, or at least they will feel " oh, this guild master is nice to talk to, and notice im here". Communication is the key.

These are some of the things i do in the game:

A. Say Hi when you're online.

when i am online, i always use the guild chat tab to say hello to all my guild members who are online, and ask them how's everyone. so they know that you're there.

B. Who wanna join in?

whenever, i don't feel like grinding mobs, and want to do something special, like a trade run or hunt some thiefs, or camp for TG. i will yell out in the guild tab, and see if someone interested. when they join you, they will feel they actually being part of the guild, and doing something fun.

C. Keep them informed

i always update the guild notice. to let them know what is going on in the guild. i post the results of trade runs, thiefs hunts and unique hunts. say something like we did a huge trade run from Jangan to Hotan, and we made XXXX amount of money blah blah blah.......last night, 4 of our guild members went on thief hunting, and killed 15 thiefs............our guild member [XXXXXXXXX] killed TG last night, well done to him/her !!!

D. Reward them with authority

i let my guild members to have some authority when they've contrubute to the guild. i use the guild storage to share alchemy elements, but only members who have donated Gold when lvl up the guild can get access to the storage. but they have to put elements into the storage as well. and those active members who always fight along me can get the union chat as well.

4. Good and friendly people. So no noobs how are just there to make some gold from guild trade runs. And from time to time guild wars. Thats the most fun in a guild and the best is againts guild which has memebrs around the lvl of the guild members.

5. Probably to have fun playing, by chating to guild memmbers. And to be the strongest is never bad :P.

6. A guild leader that will help other memebrs. And have rules not let everyone do whatever he wants, but never be to strict with the rules. So for example: You give authority to all guild mambers to recruit people lvl 30+. A guy recruits someone who is 25 and you yell on him all day.

8. If i understanded the question correctly, it's not so easy to find a full guild of people which live in the same time zone. But if you can that's great. Because then most of the people were at the same time online and that is always good :).

9. Don't recruit bots ^^. You should recruit lvl 30+ for sure since you are on Alps it's not that hard to find people with lvl 30+ that need a guild. Don't recruit people that are never helping other members and just looking how to use other members so he can be good. And of course only people that speak english, if you are making an "International" guild.

Name, bah all are stupid. Here is a good one:

- SWAT - best guildname ever :D :D :D

I don't think I have much to add. :P

I think it's very possitive that you asked for experiences from other people. That's a good sign that you'll be a very good leader.

I have always said that a good guild depends on how strong that relationship is between the members and the leader. Usaully good guilds are made by 2 or more friends IRL who want to start their own guild, and usually it sems to work out becasue they hold a bond with eachother in real life. But as far as random people joining the best way to start a tight bond is through talking. Which is the reason our guild uses Vent. as soon as new member join uss they don't want to leave casue we have great times and we stand up for one antoher like a(can't belive i am gunna say this) "Family".
so yeah In order to be a good guild doesnt alweays have to mean you are strong although u would like to be.

Yea Boi !!!!
