they both are the same..
if you are a high lvl and you want everyone to respect/trust you go hunter.
if you are high lvl and you want every one to think you are a asshole go thief.
im currently a thief but i will change to hunter at 50-60lvl

or go stealth with daggers and go after a retard that just killed the low lvl trader.fvck the Thief with "Prick" and kill his transport res the trader and voila! You got your self another fan/freind...

well its not bad for a hunter either, go stealth and walk ahead a bit and check for theives say out side town gates, ferrry, and bridges, I do it with my wizzard, i can't go stealth as long as a rouge though, if the trader some how looses their transport or something, i can just go stealth, unsommon my pets, and anytheif that comes by will assume i'm not there and not even bother with detect, if i can get a 20 second chance between spawns, i'll go invisible, at least if a theif does try to 2 shot a camel, they'll hit it before me, and then i'll 2 shot them, but if they time it right after a bunch of ai theives spawn, i'm still just as open
and detect skills are kinda weak, they only have 10 meters, which in this game is basicly right next to them, it doesn't even cover the width of the const, so you have to know right where they are
but a hunter usually is forced into fights as they go, the theives get to pick and choose more, and being able to at a traffic point, stealthed and refreshing your stealth every 60 seconds or so, means you basicly don't fight something unless you want to, because even with detect skills you're still hard to find, and in the time they try to detect you, you still hit them

This is exactly why I prefer thief over hunter. For PvP anyway. The actual job of a hunter is much more fun.

IMO Rogues can play interesting mind games as a hunter, as in while hunting for a trader and the rogue knows a thief is coming the rogue could go invisible and make it look like the caravan is vulnerable. Once the thief gets near you pop out of nowhere and kill em, could imagine that would piss off the thief alot. Not to mention for hunting, the rouges range can help take out player thieves in the distance since there are player thieves that will try to distract the hunters from the caravan so the traders are left vunerable.
But rouges can work equally as well as thieves. Range can pick off hunters w/ their range and as stated before stealth can help you ambush or get away from bad situations.
It's your choice on what job you wanna do, but your skills can be suited for either job.
