I was reading the Forums on The Sro Site, and ppl were talking about how the bot ban is going to work and how it will target other players. Morningdew responded to it and said that they can't release how it's going to work, but he/she said that it will also ban any legit users that have played on an IP that a ban has been on and banned from. So basically if you bot users have a "Main" account and used it on the same IP as your bot has been played on, then YOU"LL BE BANNED HAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!!!!! He deleted the post after a crap load of flames, but Maybe some of you guys heard about this also. Gonna be sweet. Although a lot of ppl do use proxys.

if it was not the random fake morningdews on that forum, it has not been the first time that morningdew reply with a wrong answer.
if it targets ip instead of chars that would indeed be great, just wonder how internet cafe will be handled.

MD also said that fortress war was an event that has ended
They aren't going to ban IPs.. it's been stated in the past by MD that they won't because of things like gaming cafe's and more than one person in a household that plays
sorry but.. rumor is just a rumor
also, you probably shouldn't visit the main site, I heard a rumor that there is another security flaw

IP banning is probably the worst way to go about it. Think about if everyone was using a router at home. The router provides you its own IP address which masks that of your computer, and shares it with every other router of the same model. Now what if someone was botting there, but many weren't?

I thought JM said they will never IP ban, mainly because of people who play in internet cafe?
And it would suck...IP ban problems happen on forum soemtimes, like if you ban porn bot some users get banned. What if they ban a bot a 50 other legits with him.hhmm Nah
I say let's wait and see. then comment. rumor FTL

keep dreaming, anything posted by MD is most likely bogus, plus, like was said. you can't go banning IP addresses for many reasons, just one being the internet cafe thing.

1) it's nowhere on the official SRO forums 2) there are many MD fakes 3) MD would NEVER reveal that kind of info 4) have you ever read MD's posts? they are the most condecending, bullshit-laden things ever.

I LOL'ed pretty hard I don't see what was so funny about it. Anybody who has been in vent with me knows I have two IP addresses; the IP of my computer and the IP of my router, the IP of the router being the publicly displayed one. That IP address is also shared with the other computers in the house that access the internet via that gateway, and also happens to be the default IP for that router model. So if someone halfway around the world happens to use the same router as I do, with the same gateway IP and bots and gets banned, that would also affect me, and however other many people use the same router with the same default settings.

joymax should just get rid of the gold bots, (yes, it will be temporary) and add gold to item mall, if you cant beat them why not make some money out of it.
because when you think about it, gold bots will exist forever in silkroad because joymax cant monitor their game for shit, and rather than letting gold bot company make the money, joymax should just sell gold, free up server spots, improve other people's grinding experience and most likely make more money, because newer players who wants to try out silkroad cant even connect to any servers and most likely end up uninstalling the game
real players buy silk gold bots take up grinding and server space

Would ban alot of normal players. Just think about people that play from a college or public line. Also, most people have a different ip everytime the restart their modem so this method would not work.

I doubt Joymax would ban people through an IP ban because - like others above have said - it doesn't take into account people who play in Internet cafes, universities, or even homes that have a router that is leasing out private IP addresses to all of the computers on your LAN.
Perhaps one thing Joymax could do is add a key to the Windows Registry to mark that installation of SRO as a "bot installation", and therefore banned. The SRO uninstaller can be configured to not remove that key, and the installer would leave the key alone if the user uninstalls and reinstalls the game.
Many users don't understand the Windows Registry, others are afraid to touch it. Of course, that won't stop everyone from simply going in and deleting the key themselves, but it could stop a lot of non-technical players that bot.
Maybe the key could be required for the game to work, and changed depending on the "bot" status. Something like a 256-bit RSA key of sorts, rather than just something like HKLM\Software\Joymax\Silkroad\BotBan (1).
The game can check the key when you try to log in, and block you accordingly.

You have it kind of backwards. The Internet sees your router's IP address, not individual IP addresses of all of your computers. That's the whole idea behind Network Address Translation (NAT). If interested, read further, or check out http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk361/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094831.shtml. A router has 2 IP addresses specifically for itself (I suppose they could have more). It has an internal IP address, like 192.168.0.1, and an external IP address, like 207.34.107.165 or 216.144.207.101 or similar. Internal IP addresses come from non-routable IP address ranges including the following ranges: - Range 1 is Class A: 10.0.0.0 through 10.255.255.255 - Range 2 is Class B: 172.16.0.0 through 172.31.255.255 - Range 3 is Class C: 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.255.255 Your router also hands out IP addresses private IP addresses from the list above to each of your computers - these private IP addresses are never seen by the Internet. Everyone on the Internet, ISPs, Google, Joymax, your friend down the road, will only see the public IP address of your router. So essentially, if Joymax sees someone botting on your public IP address, and does an IP ban, then anyone that connects to Silkroad from your router, would also be banned because all Joymax sees is your router's public IP address. Hopefully that clears things up. Edited above for correctness and link added. Super8 wrote: wouldn't work.. people who bot go on forums, someone would have the solution in less than an hour and post it.. very simple to get around Well I figure at least some people might get cracked bots from a friend, and maybe not know about the forums, or might not get there in time. Of course a lot of botters would know about the forums and find a solution quickly, but it's just an extra layer of protection. Maybe not as effective as I first thought.
