I know nothing of law in the Netherlands, but wouldn't the "legal to download anything" part only apply for servers hosted in the Netherlands? What about international law? When dealing with goods and services owned by parties in other countries, the laws should be different.

It's either SilkRoad or it ain't.

When you get "SilkStreet, the twelve/eleven legends" up and running, you post a link here and we'll all come play your game.

I'm trying to have an adult discussion here, but you start flaming me for no reason :S. Honestly, if you think i'm wrong prove it with an article or such. Don't flame me because of what you think..

Well the law just says:

Download = legal
Upload = illegal
Soft drugs = legal
Prostitution = legal

So it's just a great country :)

Okay then, what do you mean by "using your own code?" If you make a game, that you've coded, as long as it doesn't copy the "look and feel" of another game, then you own the copyright. No problem. This would be the game called "SilkStreets."

If you use the code owned by JoyMax or you copy the "look and feel" of SilkRoad, you are violating their copyright.

I'm sorry if I illustrated this point with a snarky comment, but you are making stuff up. You know you are making stuff up. People tell you you are making stuff up and yet you continue to make stuff up. So I resorted to a snarky comment to illustrate my point:

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

Thought I would grace this topic with my comments ^.^
Anyhow as far as "making your own code" good luck with that. To do so you would have to have access to the server side code of SRO. Good luck getting that. You would also have to have access to the SRO Database(good luck getting that as well) So in short no you cant really make your own code, unless you have the source code to backwards engineer off of to make your own. Which will never happen because JoyMax will not release a multimillion games source code to the public.

@non ego man: your name doesn't suit you. 3/4 of all the threads you have posted in in the past week have denegerated into flamefests due largely to your "guns blazing" approach to debate. if you don't tone it down a bit, you'll recieve an official warning.

there's no need to be hostile, regardless of whether or not you believe yourself to be right and those you attack to be wrong.

non ego man, I don't have any knowledge of the law outside of my country, but in my country it is legal. Also all the people I ask about why private wow servers are legal say the same, "Blizzard can't take legal action because private server owners aren't making profit of it."

Also with your own code i mean your self created emulator.

Edit: Ok i was wrong, and you are right. (Hope this is what you wanted to hear..)

Though you failed to convince me, I did some digging myself. It's illegal to host your own private server. (This applies to wow, don't know if it applies to sro). But the costs of shutting down the private server is so big that it wouldn't compensate it..

Lag is due to your connection and ISP, dude. Test your ping. I never have lag at my place.

True and not true. Lag can also be due to the server that is hosting the server. It could bottle neck your existing connection. So thus a server can also contribute to the lag.
