Fracture wrote: First off, whoever said JM can't use Checksum for integrity checks on file systems, you are an idiot. Redundancy checks are in almost every sophisticated file system, and even the most complicated Checksum systems use hash integrity checks, which puts little to no stress on any system. Also, these checks are usually performed during installation, uninstallation, and updates.
Secondly, to get the 'Windy Effect', load up Silkroad, and at the load screen do the following:
- Click Options - Leave your settings, but under Quality, scroll right, and choose 'No Change' - Confirm this change, and start the game
Remember, if you make any changes in-game, you will have to redo these steps.
LOL read the meaning of the word "checksum" b4 calling others on names.
Or I can start calling u too ...
Checksum in sro files is not possible or u need to wait 5m to 20m to start the game.
Integrity check is possible but would miss some editing since not every bytes checked.
Most ppl got different media.pk2 file sizes and content depending when they started, every update added some things.
Banning ppl because of damaged files = 1 hdd corruption and u banned.
Ppl got banned for editing files for the simple reason that they used softmod: old version sro_client.exe with edited zoom/.../multiclient.
They just want to hide the simple fact that they boters behind of editing pk2 files.

simple, they check the exact file size or its checksum of each pk2. If there's any change at all, you get banned. That's why it's stupid to do it.
"Well why would they ban you for that, Desolator?"
oh good question, it's because you can paint thieves with a bright red skin so they stand out easily and you can alter some in game procedures and you can make fake screenshots to scam people with etc etc etc.

Either he or his friend is lying. All media.pk2 files have different sizes and different timestamps and build dates, therefore no two media.pk2 files have the same CRC checksum.

Well...i dont have proof. If u've never seen someone banned for editing pk2, and if u want to see, u can edit your gear then send a SS to JM though bug report. After one day, u'll see someone is banned because of it

... wow, just wow. NO SHIT if you send proof to JM they will ban your ass. JM cannot see what is on your screen. Now if you have a corrupt data.pk2 or media.pk2 ya they can see that and ban your ass. But if you are like the majoriety of people who edit .pk2 files and DO IT RIGHT, there is no checksum error and JM will never find out because they cannot see what is on your screen. So in short I think his "friend" owned himself by posting a ss on silkroadonline.net and the gms ban hammered his ass

Nice for the warning, but I suggest you stay out of other peoples business. People have freedom to do what they want, and they probably will. If someone wants to edit .pk2 files they are going to and your post and your words will do nothing to diswade them from doing so.

Sending the screenshot to http://www.silkroadonline.net is the same as posting an image onto here.
Example: Jay has a signature that has his IGN (a big no-no) and showing himself in 9th degree garms.
That is like asking GM for a ban.

1.Well Probably if you were on ksro you wouldn't be on this forum.
2. His IGN is right there all GM has to do is look up a JamesJ in each server and look for a level higher than level 30.
3.You would have to be a 1337 PhotoShopper to do that.

After looking through his post for about 2 minutes i find this.
It doesn't matter which client he was using or where he is playing from HE IS DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL.
So there u go

Ask my friend to take a screenshot in ksro
Then just use ps cs to stick my nick on the top of it
U know the names can be turned off in the options, so can stick anything there
By the way had to reset my pc at a lockup one time, one sro file might got
corrupted but game still just works fine except some error at some startup.
Is that illegal too ?
ps.:
Just got this pic from ksro, now let me find a screenshoot of yours and edit the nick over to this.
So start to see my point that screenshot can't prove anything?

Please do not edit the files on the Silkroad folder for the 9th degree effect. The patch may find you have a check sum error then ban you for 3rd party software used on your computer. Besides, tampering with the software may bring unrecoverable disasters.
joymax moderation team
Morningdew clearly says that it's 3rd party program used. If u claim that it's not illegal, then u can go to sro home page to argue with her, not with me.
What i know atm is SRF is supporting something illegal.

YES, im 100% sure. Look at the "0" at 220 and 50, isnt it odd? compare to the "0" in this pic
2 types of FONT are different, dont u get it?

Takes 2min in ps cs2, left the "I" as it was on the top, not worth 30s of time.
Point proven.

hahaha, there is no slash (/) in "0" in iSRO.
But, who wastes its time to edit like u just to hide its illegal act, and how many ppl in this forum paid attention to what i said, about the "0"?

LoL u just don't get it do u.
I can take screenshot in ksro with 9d/euro items.
And edit them to put ur character name on top, 100% looking right
with less then an hour.
If u would be right, that would get u banned for editing.
The point isn't to hide what I can do, the point is prove that
screenshots are worthless to prove anything.
ps.:
Was my last post in this pointless argument, the other readers
can decide who was right and who wasn't.
So for other readers: Can screensots prove illegal activity or not ?

oh well, i'll be the 1st who will answer your question.
SS doesnt constitute a solid proof, but it's a base of a clue. And from a clue, u can find and deduce many things else.

first off pk2 editing is harmless at the least except if u intend to use it for things like making thieves look like barney so u can easily see them. Yea SRF doesnt support 3rd party programs but from what I gather its those programs that create SERIOUS advantage over others such as bots and whatnot... I mean hey if u really get down to it then people using g15 KBs are cheaters themselves since they can do skills automatically.

JM is the owner of the program, they didnt give u this program for free. If u modify it u need a permission...
Modifying game file is an illegal act - and SRF made guide for players to do illegal act.
Even if it's harmless
PK2 EDITING IS ILLEGAL
If u want to argue, go here and have fun with Morningdew

Alright, here is my take on this whole issue.
First off, look at the relevant section of the Operation Policy. Note that this is not hacking. Here is the definition of hacking according to the User Agreement:
User Agreement wrote: Hacking shall mean acquisition other’s cyber information without permission and breaking it. In the game, character, items and others that is the result by user’s efforts are stolen mainly. And many cyber money, character, items and etc. are copied in a short time, in the result of that, whole order of the game will be broken. All the above behavior is included in hacking. That basically defines hacking as theft of an account or abuse of the system (item duping). It also mentions order of the game being broken. Account theft and item duping are not possible through PK2 editing. Disruption of the order of the game is possible, however if all you are doing is simple edits such as 8th-9th degree you won't be disrupting the game. The relevant section of the Operation Policy is then the System Abuse Policy. Operation Policy wrote: 5. System Abuse Policy
5.1 If a user is found abusing a bug or system glitch, the user may have his account restricted or erased. Listed below are similar instances in which similar action may be taken. – If a user is found to be inducing or encouraging particular behavior with the intent of placing undue stress on systems. – If a user discovers a bug and, instead of reporting it directly to a GM or Customer Support, tells other users – If a user knowingly benefits indirectly from exploitation of a bug.
5.2 Users found to be using or distributing illegal programs may be subject to restrictions of their account or have their account deleted. In particular cases, the user may be subject to investigation by the proper authorities. The abuse of a bug or system glitch is partially defined as "copying of items and etc." in the Punishment Policy. This is too subjective in my opinion to include modification of the game client. PK2 modification cannot in anyway place undue stress on any systems other than your own so that part is ruled out as well. The Operation Policy says this of things not covered within it: Operation Policy wrote: 8.1 Normally all punishments will follow the table below however additions/revisions are possible and will be announced in notices. morningdew did make a notice regarding PK2 editing, and here it is: morningdew wrote: Please do not edit the files on the Silkroad folder for the 9th degree effect. The patch may find you have a check sum error then ban you for 3rd party software used on your computer. Besides, tampering with the software may bring unrecoverable disasters. This leaves much to be questioned. Nothing is mentioned about modifying the PK2 files for things other than the "9th degree effect". Only the possibility of being banned due to a checksum error is mentioned after that however I have not experienced this myself and question it's validity. If you mess up your PK2 files or they are corrupted, the game will simply not start, thus you cannot provide your user information for banning. Regardless, morningdew did not make a revision to the Punishment Policy of the Operation Policy, and so there is still no punishment outlined for modification of PK2 files. There is this last part of the Operation Policy which could be applied to PK2 modification. Operation Policy wrote: 1.3 All GM’s/CS are familiar with Silkroad Online operation policy and thus all services and actions of the Silkroad Online operations team are administered according to the operation policy. Also, any details not covered in this Operation Policy may be resolved in accordance with common rules and regulations.
This says that anything not covered in that policy may be resolved in accordance with common rules and regulations. What are common rules and regulations though? Where do you draw the line?
I highly doubt your friend was banned for PK2 modification alone. In fact, I can only think of one instance where they might be banned through something they can achieve by PK2 modification, however they would be banned because of violation of an unrelated part of the Operation Policy.
Yes, a pixel scanning bot could be made however you would get nailed for it because it is the use of an "illegal program", and thus would be treated no differently than any packet scanning bot.
Joymax has bigger things to worry about than PK2 modders. Namely player bots and gold bots. Those disrupt the gameplay of others. PK2 modification does not. In fact, it could be argued that it is doing Joymax a favor by keeping people who otherwise would have left interested in their game.
Many people have edited their PK2 files secretly, though I have done it openly and posted proof of it. Through all of this, I have not had my account suspended or banned. In fact, I haven't even spoken to a GM or any other employee of Joymax. It is a personal decision whether or not you want to modify your PK2 files, and based on what I have read in the User Agreement and Operation Policy I have chosen to do so. If morningdew or any other Joymax employee reads this I encourage them to clarify their policy regarding punishment of PK2 modification and make appropriate changes to the Operation Policy. Until that happens, I will continue to make my mods.
