I don't play SRO, I have no idea which servers have higher supply or demand - or the prices for gold. What I was talking about, is how:

Yes it does. Read my example. Are you going to buy 100m gold for $1 or are you going to buy it for $100? This is quantity demanded, keep in mind.

Dom's right. With high demand it means that you can sell for ridiculous prices, with low demand you're lucky if you can find anyone who wants to buy it therefore prices are lowered. uBeR needs to take an Economics class...

Sorry from what i have learned (and still do) scarce goods can be sold at higher prices due to demand > supply. Prices will continue to rise untill demand declines and demand = supply.
If demand is low business will lower its prices to sell its goods. Again, untill demand rises (because of lower prices) and demand = supply. Note: this is the theoretical perfect market model which doesn't work 100% in reality.

The opposite, what uBeR and co say, doesnt' make sense.
Demand is high, prices will lower? Think of it.
Same way the other way around: demand is low, prices will rise? Ofcourse not.

The only reason i can see for goldcompanies to lower their prices while demand > supply, is market penetration, which i doubt, because #1 objective of short existing goldcompanies is to make as much as profit as possible.

Like I said earlier, it's important to distinguish from a change in quantity demanded and an actual shift in the demand curve.

Mercury 2.48$ per 10m 200m Stock
Venus 3.29$ per 10m 300m stock
Xian 4.29$ per 10m just sold their last stock of 400m(one person<<<omg)

Taken from one of the popular gold sellers. That info right there tells me that the most gold out of the three servers is bought in mercury. You dont have to know economics to figure that out. Took awhile cause i had to do it over the phone. But that is also the trend with other sites as well. Mercury is in the lower priced end, venus in the middle, Xian closer to the higher priced.

Xian 2b in stock / 3.74$ per 10m
Venus 300m in stock / 2.35$ per 10m

So ya, seems the trend of gold sellers is lower price=less stock=high demand.... Higher price=more stock=low demand

There ya go night.. from the biggest gold seller, cant argue with that.

lol yeah ok buddy. the biggest gold seller has 300m in stock. thats why i got 600m in the fortress for 2 weeks only. who did that gold come from? 20% of all gold bots in jangan only.

Fly, it means they are constantly running out as fast as the gold comes in. Anyone here can see that looking at the numbers. It means Xian has less buyers, and venus has more, thats all. What you just said proves that venus has some of the biggest gold buying population. You said your 600m showed there were many gold bots. Its sad that Venusians buy so much that TPL cant even keep up with gold stock..

by rev6, the only place that shows any real numbers in this debate, venus has 700 less gold bots then xian. did not take time to compare to other servers.

This thread needs to lessen its assumptions and provide solid proof.

I'm not talking about SRO, reread what I wrote. I'm talking about pure economic theory.

The idea that prices will rise even with a demand drop is absurd. Look at the aggregate demand curve, it will slide down the aggregate supply curve and result in lower prices. The reason i'm only talking about theory and not practice, is because of:

And just to add to the thread: i'm pretty sure the same prices aren't caused by demand, but rather supply. It only makes sense that on a server with less goldbuyers, they don't farm as much gold and sell it for the same price. Why would they waste resources on a server that buys less gold, when they can tack it onto a more profitable server.
