@Gaige - You're running Linux as root? Shame shame...

When you say you want to do it in BIOS, I assume you mean the bootloader (grub)? Are you trying to do this without running an X server? You mentioned it needs to lack a GUI.

What you're doing just seems complicated. All I did was install Linux (with KDE), update it, install wine, install SRO, and then double click the icon. You should be able to run multiple games that way too. Multiple SRO's? Well I guess your way is unique.

NO, you can NOT. I tried it and before Silkroad loads GameGuard I get some error with random characters...

Maybe it's just my system, but I find if I try to switch users in XP, it REALLY lags my system down almost to a halt, especially if I'm running a few programs. There's a bit of overhead involved in loading up an entire desktop for the other user just to open another copy of SRO.

What needs to be done is to allow the second user account to access the first user's desktop session so both SRO clients run on the same desktop, but under different user IDs. This should be possible in Linux. Not sure about XP though. I usually find XP has a hard time running programs as multiple users.

You could set up multiple desktops and VNC in to the second one if you can't get it to share properly in Linux. But what the heck is a CMOS GUI? CMOS stands for Complimentary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor and is a type of chip used to store data. So how do you make a GUI out of a chip?

I was wondering the same thing about CMOS. I mean the chip manufacturer can modify the GUI for the chip's CMOS settings, but the user wouldn't. Perhaps Gaige is talking about a menu in the bootloader. Maybe have Grub contain a menu similar to:

Linux
Linux (Silkroad)
Windows XP (Silkroad)
Windows XP - VMware Linux (Silkroad multi)
....
....

So you can either boot Linux, boot Linux and auto-login to X and auto-start SRO, same for XP, or boot XP and auto-boot VMware to automatically boot a guest Linux OS to auto-start SRO on both OS's.

Completely unnecessary, but I'm not sure what else he would have been talking about with a "CMOS GUI".

[EDIT] ALSO, you'll need a valid windows to run the emulator, due to copyright issues, but I'm afraid people are going to run the directories through a ftp server, but I will find away to get around it, so you need windows installed on your hardrive at least 2000/xp

So this is like your own linux ? Or what?

If you want a simple, non-resource-hog GUI for X Windows, why not just use Fluxbox, or IceWM? Basically, don't use KDE or Gnome.

Or even just start up the X server and spawn an xterm.

I'm really not sure what you're getting at. You're saying fluxbox and IceWM don't run exe's? When you say "exe's" do you mean "Windows Executables (.exe files)"?

Of course they don't run Windows Executables. KDE and Gnome don't either. If you want to run those .exe's, you use Wine (http://www.winehq.org) regardless of what window manager you run (KDE, Gnome, fluxbox, IceWM, WindowMaker....) Wine doesn't really care what window manager you have.

ahhhh, wat to do with you lol, you like to oppose w/e I have to say lol, even in the VNC topic I had..... lol what did I do lol, but I know they don't but Wine can't run a windows executable at 100% like the genuine thing can do, neither will mine, but I garuntee it will run at 98% lol, the Linux Executables section will only run perfectly when Microsoft gives their core code to the public....dont think it'll happen lol

Ok I'll try a step by step tutorial.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/produc ... fault.mspx to get VPC (Virtual PC)

Now You'll need to convert your windows CD into a ISO (try at least windows 2000) I'll due further research on how to convert it

Install VPC 2007, and then install the patch afterwards, which I will provide shortly

I highly recommend you to restart your pc so you can have the smoothest results

Then open VPC and make a Profile

Insert your ISO

then when the console loads press DEL i think and go modify the video's ram

install windows, update it, and make your sure your connectivity is ran under SAT (SHARED NETWORK CONNECTION)

then install silkroad, I advise you to put it on a flash drive so you wont need to re-download it again

and then knock urself out, but you can't access the same user account at once

sry I tried, and cant wait PEP RALLY WOOOT WOOT LOL

Hello Gaige,
Ive been trying to make this working, and have windows xp and silkroad installed, but couldnt find a way to modify the video ram...

If i press "Del" on startup I have no options in the bios ..

Gets some nasty errors when starting silkroad, but what gives when the VPC only have 4 or 8 Mbs of video ram .. :)

Another thing is this patch ... Where is it ? cant find a link in any of you posts...

Thanks on advance, if this thread is alive ..

this has been done to death, there is no way to make this work atm, but supposedly the new version will offer better video ram support options

All I have to say is, if you are going to try running two SRO clients at once (of course NOT multi-client) don't emulate an entire operating system to do it.

Don't use VMware for it. There are other options that could potentially work without having an entire second copy of XP or other OS running on top of your main OS.

Im Afriad im gonna have to correct you wrong
This isnt agasint Joymax rules
Muticlient hacks Modify The Files Hence it is illegal
This just runs a virtual OS Which isnt agasint Joymax ToS

So pk2 edition does, and as long I been in this forum, I've seen some post about pk2 edition around, so why multi will be not allowed then?

Check page 3 of this thread. I posted an option using Linux to run two different users, giving both access to the X server to run their own copies of SRO.

Granted, I haven't had the opportunity to test it, and now I don't have Linux installed at the moment. It's just an educated theory.

Maybe a similar setup can be done in XP.

But even if both are run as separate users, gameguard might interfere. But gameguard might not be able to see the processes of other users in Linux....

Thoughts anyone?
