Quote: Fix Gameplay Before Banning Bots
Post by (Saturn)Rena on Dec 28, 2008 07:21 pm I really think a lot of the reason why people bot is because it's so hard to level up. Who wants to spend a whole year of their life in front of the computer all the time? I try to understand both sides, and after talking to a lot of botters, most of them say that they don't have time to sit in front of a computer for hours grinding just to get a measly 5%.
If JM fixes EXP/SP gain, it would encourage people (not everyone, of course) that it's okay to handgrind. Personally, a lot of the reason I don't play as much anymore is because it takes forever to level up. The private servers have a 10x EXP/SP gain, and that's perfect. Just look at other popular games out there, like WoW... it takes 3 months to cap. Silkroad takes 7 months to a year to cap, and that's if you're really dedicated.
Unfortunately, SRO is about 90% botters, and it's growing. I see more and more people botting or considering starting a bot. I don't blame a single one of them. Like I said, if JM fixes the game where someone can handgrind and feel like they accomplished a lot within a hour or two, maybe people won't believe that you can't cap without a bot.
Also, they need to raise the curse heart drop rate because it's farking annoying. . In a way, I kind of agree. Maybe if JM raised the EXP/SP gain, it would encourage more people to handgrind. Opinions?

i mean, ok silkroad is a grind-game but killing 30.000 mobs for lvl up isn't really fun
5x rates would be ok for me ,too but it is ridiculous to farm 13.000SP for 1 skill at lvl 100 that are like 26.000 monster with gap 4~5 (without gold ticket) for just one skill, that is almost one whole lvl for me with lv 76 and there are still 50 lvls missing for the final cap....

Seriously, what is the point in paying for a free game if you end up installing a program to play it for you? The point is thats its more fun to be caped then be 79 at this point. And if u dont have 5+ hours aday to play silkroad online, ppl will bot. Pressing 1-2-3-4, 3 hours every day is not my idea of fun anyway. Maybe some ppl like it, thats the 5% that dont bot i guess

I am ok with the EXP rate, if the SP rate is raised a little. It's rediculous to spend 5 months at lvl 85 to farm 550k SP you need... And from where to get the motivation when all the new players get FF at ongs.... It's my mistake that when i started the game that was imposible and i had to hand grind for SP? Or i should've just started a new char maybe... The only problem for me is the SP, because leveling up is not so hard. It's not ment to be easy, but as it is now it's almost impossible to be FF if you're not farmed at ongs or taxies at higher lvl.

Its the the XP the problem its the Fucking SP. You know how long it takes to farm. Warlock/cleric needs 1.1m to be FF lvl 90. That would take me more than 2 years to farm.
I dont think they should increase the XP, but they should increase the SXP or decrease the amount of SP skills need. yeah i agree, but JM wont ever change the sp rate... and u just gotta accept it PocketSunshine wrote: Also, they need to raise the curse heart drop rate because it's farking annoying. . Dunt worry, They wont raise the drop i personally dont beleive in delvling. i mean why the hell would someone delvl 90 lvls and waste millions of gold for a new skill... yeah ok 30 lvls or something but some people just go crazy and say theyre gonna hit the cap then delvl and get new tree. BS

Capping SRO is not the hardest part. The hard part is getting Fully Farmed. However, theres a way ard this. Lvl a char to 64, use that char to farm 2m SP. Whole process will take 3 Mths if you work hard enough. 3 Hours of Grind + delvl daily. Then Capping the FF char will take... 2-3 mths. Depending on the Grind u do per day. Some can do it in 1.5 but thats only provided you can get a 8/8 pt everyday for 3-5hours daily. All in all, 5/6 mths.

This has always been my opinion, a bot is not some lifestyle choice, neither is being legit either tbh, if Joymax increased the exp/sp rates then the game would become bearable to grind. Keep in mind that in games like WoW you rarely grind, instead you can do instances and raids etc to gain your lvls, if Joymax doubled the exp rate the game would be much more enjoyable and then Joymax could seriously start banning bots simply because there wouldnt be the need to bot that there is now.

This has been discussed numerous of times and although agreeable on most parts, it doesn't actually will or can it solve root concerns. Flawed game designs are just that.. flaws, period. So 3rd party macro aka bot producers are merely exploiting that "advantage" in having created this long running atmosphere of fear and pressure for lesser ethically correct players to bot. Add the ingenious tactic of them being paying players (bot making groups included) and voila they got JM hooked balls deep. Thousands of IGNs we see on ban lists and yet the evidence suggests that JM still cuts out healthy profits anyway. Tweaking rates in itself won't fix anything. Especially when rates are where it's at for JM to make their living. They still subscribe to the old "pay to play" formulae of x dollar amounts = profit = (item sales/mandatory usage * time). A pretty "interesting" predicament considering even some other AAA MMOs than WoW are either going bust or straight to f2p route. Previous inputs about lowering the caps while are practical needs to be done or compensated by current game functions. For example, maybe job xp could contribute towards overall character development along with PvP points. Things that should motivate a player to actually have more fun to perform legit'ly. These are better approaches than just rates' tweak alone and with the added incentive of not having to reinvent the wheel so to speak.
Problem is, JM seems to be content on letting players to do that part of heavy thinking for them instead of actually implementing tests themselves. A separate test server should suffice to observe the feasibility of changes. Meh I'm just farting to passing wind here =p

increasing the exp needed to lvl and fixing the exp gain rate so chinese and european characters gain exp at the same rate in share pt then doing a patch to end powerlevel would help with bots a lot but of course it wouldn't end it
and 10x more exp is way too much shouldn't be anymore than 100%-200% increase and also its really the exp rate thats the problem but the sp requirements are way too high

People don't play games to get max lvl and to get the best equipment, you play games to have something to do in your free time. You should play to have something to do in free time not to get freaking lvl 90 -.- If you enjoy in playing getting levels wouldn't be hard but if you hate grinding,farming... then find another game and gtfo.

You want people to handgrind?
Improve the quests. I can't believe they call those focking sh!t in Silkroad quests. Go kill 1000 of this and collect 1000 of this. WTF dude?
Look at Runescape, the best part of Runescape were the quests. If they improve the quests, many people won't bot anymore, believe me.

To all the people who are saying that they don't have a problem with the exp gain rate, you must not have much of a life outside SRO. You people actually sit there with your premiums at lvl 75+ and watch yourself getting 00.01% per kill or every TWO kill and say thats ok?. I'm 76 and fully farm and that is exactly what I get when hand grinding.
I see a lot of you over the years saying the same thing. That it ain't hard and people that bot are losers. Only to see a lot of you start botting yourselves or quit when the next lvl cap comes around. Wait till lvl cap 100 comes...lets see how many of you guys will be left.
Its not just the exp gain rate that is the problem, but having enough SP so you can get the maximum experience while u lvl. Some people are grinding with 3-6 gaps between mastery and level. I can't imagine their gain rate.
JM and their greedy business model already ruined SRO. I cant blaim player botters for doing what they do. Especially when they have to attend school daily or work or spend time with their loved ones and not sit around like mindless zombies punching 12345 on the keyboard in a delusional state that the exp gain rate is ok.

Look at Runescape, the best part of Runescape were the quests. If they improve the quests, many people won't bot anymore, believe me. At level 20 a linear story line should start once you pick your job. The game should be capped at 60: Remove SP, make it so you get skills from quest. Remove gold drops after level 21. Remove level requirements for gear and add gear that can only be obtained from quest. Of course they would have to add cut-scenes, NPC Trader/Thieves/Hunters that roam the land and use actual moves. They should also add NPC traders that can be protected from town to town or NPC Hunters that can be hired to protect a caravan. This would require the game to be completely re-written. The best players would be those that quest the most/ do the most instances/job the most. Make it so you can have 50 man parties and add some hard as fck bosses. And nerf Euro already ffs. Any group of 8 twats with a "perfect" Euro party should not be unstoppable. Take some advice from games like GW and WoW.

If your real life is that busy, you shouldn't be playing games in the first place. Botting is a quick solution for impatient and lazy people. People fail to see that video games = entertainment. You don't need to have a capped, full-farmed char to have fun in this game. Probably being capped is the most boring time of SRO.

To all the people who said capping isn't a problem, I commend you for your patience. When 8D was the cap, I managed to get a char to level 80. It took me over 6 months of hard work and patience. When the 90 cap finally came out, grinding had become a chore. Even with a premium ticket, I would end up spending most of my day grinding just to get 7%. When people are saying it takes 5 months to cap, I'm pretty sure you mean from partying every day, because I can't imagine someone spending that much time excessively solo grinding every day to cap that soon. The SP requirements are horrendous. I saw it takes around 5k SP for one skill at level 90. Quote: This has always been my opinion, a bot is not some lifestyle choice, neither is being legit either tbh, if Joymax increased the exp/sp rates then the game would become bearable to grind. I do agree. I have a friend who plays WoW, and he has two capped chars. He works a lot, and doesn't have a lot of time to play. Even at cap, he still has fun because he raids with his friends. I don't think that simply raising EXP/SP gain would stop botting completely, but I think it would help a lot. Improving quests would be helpful, too. The quests in SRO suck. They're annoying and they give shit EXP. Quote: I have school, work, and other responsibilities I need to attend to on a regular basis. I play when I can, and I didn't need a bot to get to cap. I have a few friends who are capped, and they have work, children, school... etc. I respect them so much for capping without ever starting or thinking about botting. But most importantly, they have fun playing. The only thing is, they've had the same chars for two years. I really don't think cap is the most boring time in SRO. I think once someone's capped, they'll be able to enjoy the full benefits of the game. I'm really considering joining a server that has a lot of party play, because solo grinding just blows.

as long as there is a .00000000001% chance a sun will drop, there will always be botters who are cap, have llke 500K Sp and still bot, just for that .0000000001% they might get a sun drop.

Before SRO I played KalOnline... If you want to see a game that is hard to level then do not look at SRO...
Kal has ZERO bots
Kal does NOT have a level cap at all but by the time you reach level 70 you will probably take 3-4 months of training 8 hours a day with the exp increase ticket to level to 71.
- In Kal the monsters are much harder to fight. most players would run even if 2 or more monsters attacked them. - In Kal to increase survivability people have to make full parties. - The agro distance is infinate so monsters could chase you the whole map, like a unique in sro. - If anyone did see a bot they would just lure monsters onto it and it would die. - In Kal if you die the death experience loss is MUCH worse than sro. 6% loss per death at its worst.(remember 6% would be like 2 hours leveling at level 70) - When a monster is 5 levels below your level(grey) they would not drop any item/money
Kal has no bots because they would NEVER level and FAILED and died miserably.
- In Silkroad however you can create a solo char and not expect to die solo leveling even when you have 8 monsters attacking you. - In Silkroad the monsters are fkn easy to fight. (I am pure str glavie and I could even solo shaitan!) - The agro distance is pathetic and monsters stop chasing you so quickly and easily. - If anyone does see a bot they CANNOT just lure monsters onto it hope it dies. You must make 8 man party... and hope the bot does AOE attack and lure more than 10 Party mobs(party mobs are meant to be HARD versions of normal mobs? LOL). But in normal spots you cannot even do this because there is not 1 bot there are 15 or 20 all in one spot... - In Silkroad if you die the death experience loss is patheticly low. It should be 2% always no matter what level you are... but its not. - Monsters even 20 levels below your level can drop items LOL it is so stupid. - In SRO The monsters are too nerfed and easy to kill. Even the idea that a maximum of 8 monsters can agro you is ridiculous.
In SRO People bot because the CAN bot. Silkroad is just too easy to play. JM entice people to bot and not just because of ONE problem like it is hard to level!
Silkroad will always have bots until they fix the fundamental game design.

I have school, work, and other responsibilities I need to attend to on a regular basis. I play when I can, and I didn't need a bot to get to cap. You just play when you can, botting isn't an excuse, especially when you try to use real life. "My real life's too busy." If your real life is that busy, you shouldn't be playing games in the first place. Botting is a quick solution for impatient and lazy people. People fail to see that video games = entertainment. You don't need to have a capped, full-farmed char to have fun in this game. Probably being capped is the most boring time of SRO. I guess you set the standard for what people consider fun. I also guess you set the standard for what denotes a busy life and should warrant too busy enough to play SRO (or any other). If my life was half as busy as yours and I said I was too busy to hand grind to the cap it would be correct for MY life..cuz its MY perception. One cant deny that SRO is a really long boring grind to the cap. Thats a fact. And yes you don't have to be at the cap to have fun. But even you (possibly on a subconscious level) feels that there is more fun to be had once you reach cap. So I don't think you fully believe in what you say about fun. Or else you wouldn't have tried (For god knows how long...something that u failed to mention becuz you hand grinded) to reach the cap. When you have players in SRO who have played other games prior and/or during SRO sees how easier it is to level in those other games they are compelled to be "impatient" we are compelled to say the things we say...And ultimately tempted to do the things these player botters do. Don't call it the trait of "impatient lazy people". Call it a crooked game design born to vastly lengthen your playing time so that you will frequent their item mall. Something you and nearly all of us fell victim to.

They should totally increase monster strength, a lot. That way, if you bot, you'd need to bot on stuff way below you, getting no SP/XP. Or, make the SP rate much higher.

I'm level 89 now (no not with this character of course ) and I have never, ever botted. I have handgrinded from level 1 up all the way to level 89 (I need 90% right now to level to 90). Started at level 22, I've used GT all the way which basically means I only play 3 hours a day. During my low level days, there were a day or two that I didn't play (but that was before I found out that you could only keep at least 6 hours of GT time for 48 hours then after that it'll be a waste) because I work full time and I'd like to watch a movie or do something else from time to time. I've only used Premium Plus once just to get the 30K SP and after that I've switched back to GT because handgrinding for 5 hours straight is a pain in the a$$. Where did I get the patience to handgrind you ask? Well, that's because since level 1, me and my boyfriend have partied up. He's a wizard and I'm a bower so I'm the tanker he's the attacker. Since level 80, we saw that we pretty much level up every 7 days at least and that's fine for us. We're not particularly in a hurry to cap to 90 considering that 10D is not here yet. Up until now, I still find it fun to handgrind because we're always in party. I would imagine that it'd be a little harder when in solo to handgrind that's probably the reason why people bot. It's boring and since you're alone, you can pretty much watch your exp going really slow. If you have a partner or in a group of parties you don't notice the time moving by so fast or your exp running because you're busy and alert. I tried soloing and it bored me to death. I don't know anything about fully farming yet but my plan is to gap 0 until level 90 and then delevel the mastery to 9 gaps and buy Premium Plus + SP ticket. This should at least make me full farm within 2 weeks or so hopefully. I have 4 mastery levels but I'd imagine I'm going to be deleveling a mastery when 10D comes on. Either way, when I'm full farming I'm going to be farming for curst hearts as well just in case .

Joymax kinda made the game to force people to bot. A bot can grind 24/7, way more then a human. When you get some kids addicted to the game and they have 5 hour Gold Time, they end up botting because they fell they are wasting their time. Who in the world wants to waste 5 hours a day(which tends to be more then 5 hours to get the gold time gone) sitting there clicking 12345. There is no fun in grinding. Grinding IS the game. They get people addicted enough to bot so they will keep spending. That is what joymax likes.
If joymax was "for the people", The max gold time card would be maby 1 hour or so with 500% exp/sp. This would allow people to pvp, job, and guild war. They would also fix pk2 editing, help get people their accounts and gear back from a hacking. Fix all the minor bugs in the game.
In the end they wont because it's easy money letting people pay for something they do not even use. So the quality of the game does not matter.
