knowing joymax it will probably be like the viet ip block when it was first activated. The people with modded clients will carry on and the people with clean clients will get banned.

I believe Joymax is too light on it's consequences on cheating.

If I ever make an MMORPG; first offense: IP Ban, but before that, a little "update" would be downloaded into that individual's PC.

*whistles*

agree on that one.
botters can now just make their new char and
bot with it some more. if their ip is banned they
will not be playing this game at all anymore

There really is no such thing as IP bans anymore, you can change your IP very easily these days.

i did that for 01239570123720 times.

joymax = couple of brains
world = 2billion brains

so joymax VS the world = joymax owned.

The only way to shut this up is....
Joymax shut SRO off or sell them to a better company with better management.

oh yeah..you're not even listening.

Seems if they want to check your client, they could just send a baseline .pk2 file (for media, data, and any others) to the client, have the client do a diff on them and see if there are any "unacceptable" differences. Perhaps that would be better to do on the server end, but that would be a LOT of storage to temporarily store the .pk2 files of all players. But they wouldn't all have to be done at once. The server could randomly request .pk2 files from a random sample of players to be transferred to the server, scan them there, and then ban any offenders.

It shouldn't be that hard.

+1. do you know how hard it is to keep banned users off this forum? i've banned a few people at least 10x.

besides, for people playing at large universities, internet cafes, etc., this would ban a lot more than just that one person.

i agree with sg, i think this is the primary reason why jm does/will not ban ip, since most ppl in asia play in internet cafes, hence if ip ban, no one can play in the cafe...

isnt the mac address tied to the NIC? In that case, just buy a new NIC lolz. I'm not sure about that tho...

Yes, the MAC address is tied to the NIC. Every NIC has its own unique MAC address.

They must make updates for several versions of SilkRoad, they don't have time to find a way to detect modded clients. xD
